Drop Ian Hulley a line - he's in Wirksworth, and will be able to give you a good overview of what's what.

Re: Fuel expansion tank query
I just put the fuel tank and expansion tanks back on, but am having a small crisis in confidence. I've connected the expansion tanks to each other via the valves on the top of the tanks. However... In the Haynes manual, the pipes coming off the top of each expansion tank are not shown as connected ...

E D I T = the 205/R14 tyres I refer to above are often listed as "205/80/R14" on the tyre selector thingies on tyre selling websites. I did try to find some for you, but despite my best attempts, using Google.ES etc, I just get UK results. Many of the tyre sites sell across Europe - I've ...

Re: Radiator switch
Although I have also found a pin prick hole below the pressure cap on the header tank which spirits water when pressure and heat builds. I assume that this could have an adverse effect on the flow and operation of the cooling system but not sure why. Any takers?? Because the cooling system can't ge...

Re: Charging leisure batt when in use
Solar chargers are designed to do this, as are alternators, are intellegent chargers designed to do this is really the question? I know it works as I'm doing it now but wondering if there are any possible or known problems. No, no problem at all. The charger doesn't know whether the current is goin...

Re: Non VW, any car stereo experts??
Does this new stereo have bluetooth for a phone hands-free? If so, go through the settings on it - there's very probably a setting to "wake it up" at any time, whether it's on or not - and if it's been wired to work with ignition off, that'll take a LOT of juice.

Whs^^ thats what I meant by washing up liquid 'solution', you can also use a paintbrush to apply it if you don't have a spray bottle I missed how old this Audi is... Quite often, peeling lacquer and general corrosion can lead to older alloy wheels being ever so slightly porous - which allows the ai...

Re: Over fuelling on starting
The pump should be fired up for a few seconds on first turning the key, to prime the rail. After that, it should work all the time the engine's running, and not if it isn't. This is partly a fire-safety thing, to prevent the pump adding the entire contents of the tank to a fire... You don't yet know...

There isn't another fuel pump somewhere in the line...?wizwilson wrote:it shouldn't run without fuel pressure BUT IT DOSE !!
Does it start, run and stay running until you turn it off, no matter how long?
Have you removed the blanking bolt from the rail T-union, see what residual pressure you've got in there?

Re: Over fuelling on starting
there is no fuel going back on the return pipe T junction What, ever? Then the fuel pressure regulator is where I'd start to look. Fuel should be going around all the time - the pump delivers far more than the injectors ever use. It's not like the pump on something older with a carb, pumping agains...
