not an answer but for what its worth I avoid hard deceleration with the van in gear - why put strain on engine and gearbox when you can let your easily replaced brake pads take it?

iirc outside diamter of the plastic pipes is 38mm, so add a bit more for to allow for the hose. not sure if people think jubillee clips are the pukka thing for the job, but I've got them on mine, used 2 per joint so as not to have to tighten them too much, no disasters yet 6 months on from fitting.

if diesel arrangement is the same as petrol the top up tank is just that - coolant gets sucked through a one way valve into the main reservoir when needed, so there is not supposed to be a flow from main reservoir to top up tank.
