Re: prop shaft matters

seen lots where the stack of bushes and nylon plates and washers is all wrong, even with the bolt from the top and nuts on the bottom which you can't do insitu so must have been done before offering up the gearbox and the mounts Humm, didn't know they had bits in them like that. Wonder if that expl...

Re: Out with the old in with new...

Hats off to you guys who work on trolley jacks and axle stands, no way I could be arsed with all that! Some of the jobs people undertake on the floor amazes me. DIY'ers, I salute you! We might spent an unresionable amout of money on keeping our syncros going but a 4 poster lift is still a bit too f...

Re: Syncro Gearbox Life expectancy again

If its had an inline petrol engine in it did it start off as a factory diesel or has someone messed with it enough to swap out the WBX belohousing? Can you do anything wrong when swapping a belhousing or would it have no effect on the gearbox in genral (never taken one off so don't know what gets de...

Is syncronauts or 8090 recognised as an owners club by the RAC? If not I wonder whats required to be. Good point... we should investigate further. being an MSA affiliated club doesn't I think confer the required RAC status... might even do the opposite :) Might be in luck then? Aparently for the La...

Could you fit some stick on centrecap VW logos from a golf or something? Would look a lot better than an exposed castlenut on the back.

Re: Brake rebuild

Is it definately trapped air or have the shoes not self ajusted? On my Land-Rover (which has twin leading shoe front drums notoreous for being tricky to bleed) I had an nightmare trying to get air out that just wouldn't come. In the end when I was so fedup I decided to live with the 'pump for brakes...

As its under a month away I thought its about time I sorted some ferrys. So, 0400 on the 28th - should get to France in decent time to find a local Quassant stockest - yum yum! Not sure what to do about traveling over to Mammut - quite possubly just press on over there at a leasurely 90km/h - if som...

Re: Syncro without diff locks

Not sure thats quite fair Jed, 2WD with a difflock might get you out of a few situations but I bet it'd be showing signs of struggleing and the front wheels would be doing a bit of ploughing with little hope of leaving some minor rutts that a powered wheel would climb. I've been using my syncro for ...

Another great looking day out missed by yours truely :( I had a mate years ago who had about 5 of those Sisley Pandas. They're cracking little things  I was smileing all the way till the fuel hose poped off mine... http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/Glen107/DSC01340.jpg Shame as weighing u...

Shiny Shiny... http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/Glen107/VW/DSC00020Small.jpg Last weekend I got some spare injectors to get re nossled, thought I'd give them a go and it turns out they are noticeably better than what I had, so they are staying for the time being and my originals will get done....

Re: Broken Return spring

The brake light switch activation spring on a late series 1 Land-Rover looks pritty simular to what you show above (5 1/2in in length aparently, quite small dia and with a long leg on one end), so if the spring rate is apropreate it might make a decent substitute. Part number 243225, £5.25+vat from ...

Re: HELP Syncro rear brake problem

Got to be careful with GSF. If I remember they have a crap returns policy. Something like a couple of weeks else forget it. Not great if your buying parts as spares or in anticipation of a big job. I ordered Type 4 engine heat exchangers from them and got 2 of the same side then 2 different version...

Re: Syncro gearbox lifespan

What are peoples thoughts on brake-pad renewal? :rollin As modern pads tend to ware the discs out anyway you might as well ware the pads right down to the metal to screw the last pennys out of them before changing the lot. If you don't hear the horundus squeeling noise coupled with vertually no red...

Re: Post and Packing

And I thought Just Kampers were on line for an award when sending me a single washer for a CVJ bolt in an A4 jiffy bag (thankfully they didn't charge P&P for it, as it was the remaining part of my order that cleaned out their stocks 1 washer short). Did they fill the box with bubble rap or somet...
