Re: Engine swap choice - future proofing.
I think you’d still get the historic vehicle status, i.e., ULEZ and VED exemption, but you wouldn’t get the MOT exemption:

Re: Engine swap choice - future proofing.
The historic vehicle status relates to the age of the vehicle, so my understanding is that this is correct.

Re: Engine swap choice - future proofing.
My understanding is that you get ULEZ compliance for your van when it reaches the 40yr threshold and has been registered as a historic vehicle. At least that’s the situation currently - there have been recent rumours that the Chancellor is thinking of ending the historic vehicle scheme. :-( The “no ...

Front number plate location
I think the intention is that the number plate should be fixed to a vertical, or near vertical, surface, rather than being mounted at the front edge of a largely horizontal car bonnet for example.

Re: Front number plate location
The wording in the regulations is: Fixing of registration plates: vehicles registered before the relevant date 7.—(3) This paragraph requires each plate to be fixed— (a)in a vertical position or, where that is not possible, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable, and (b)...

Re: Historic MOT criteria
I think the unmodified criteria only affects the exemption from ongoing MOT requirements, not the 40 year historical definition.

As far as I am aware, the closest Formica laminate match for the grey Westy cabinets is F7927 'Folkestone' in a Matte58 finish.

R9 fuel hose inner lining blocking hose?
What should we be using for modern petrol if not SAEJ30R9? Hoses to the SAE 30R9 and SAE 30R14 specifications have actually only been checked to work with fuel containing 5% (E5) ethanol, and we already have fuel in this UK with 10% (E10) ethanol content, and in other countries it can be 15% or mo...

Historic MOT criteria
That’s the situation in terms of which vehicles currently qualify. My understanding is that they update the dates every year, probably in April, to reflect the rolling date.

Get in touch with Brickwerks - they make up hose kits for the different T25 engine setups. As a bonus, all their fuel hoses are rated for 100% ethanol.

Re: Historic MOT criteria
There should already be a date on the V5C, which they can work from, but my understanding is that this is typically the date of first registration. However, when we checked our van we found that the manufacturing date was actually the calendar year before it was registered. This means that we can ge...

Brickwerks have them in stock:

By the way, if you add some details of your van to your signature it simplifies the process of people replying with pertinent information.

Re: Historic MOT criteria
You can either order a Certificate Of Confirmity from VW in Germany here, or you can try emailing the VW vehicle compliance department in the UK at type.approval@vwg.co.uk, who should be able to provide you with a letter confirming the date of manufacture of your van.
