Does the solenoid clunk when you turn the key? If not then you need to trace the voltage to the solenoid, if you have power to the solenoid then it's the solenoid. If the solenoid clunks then you need to check the big lead from the battery to the solenoid, if thats okay it's the solenoid. After that...

I suppose on some vans it allows for a power steering pump and air conditioning pump. Maybe (now I could be wrong on this) caravelles have extra pulleys for this reason, whereas the transporter just has to run the alternator and water pump usually so it just has the one.
