Re: Ricks Devon Moonraker 1z Tdi conversion
A few hundred miles test run fully-laden on some of Devon's best hills at the weekend, and pleased to say all my missing torques seem to be back! Not entirely resolved though, there were a couple of moments where the boost temporarily dropped off, but this time not accompanied by loud turbo whistle ...

Re: Fitting camper into standard size garage
I remember reading on some overland blog or Facebook page about some guy who had a set of "shipping container wheels" that he fitted to a high-top T3 to allow it to be driven into a shipping container to be shipped to the next country - pretty sure it was just a set of steelies with no ty...

Re: Camper Jam Fail, Bearing? :(
Ive no idea what it is but what worries me is you bought a van with almost no MOT !? One lesson that I learned years ago is that a fresh MOT can be meaningless - I once bought a 1972 beetle from a secondhand car dealer in gloucestershire on the basis that it would come with 12 months MOT, thinking ...

Re: Ricks Devon Moonraker 1z Tdi conversion
OK, so the boost problems continued, along with the occasional occurrence of the boost pipe detaching itself altogether (the other hose, not the one that now attaches to my new aluminium pipe), which plagued me through france last year. I decided to remove the intercooler to see if it needed cleanin...

Re: Tdi cone filters?
I just gave you the name of mine... K&N Apollo. It's a enclosed one, so it's quite easy to attach up to your diesel snorkel. I'll see if I have a pic handy, but Google will show you How do you find the noise levels with that set up? I'm looking for a solution to get rid of the horrific noise/ v...

Re: Ricks Devon Moonraker 1z Tdi conversion
I seem to have been losing boost on hills recently, and I think leaky intercooler pipework might be the culprit. Today I replaced the piece of plastic pipe used to mount the IAT sensor (salvaged from the donor car) with a very nice custom engineered piece from MV engineering. It all seems to fit a b...

Re: gearbox / transmission that high rev problem at 70mph!
Thank You!!!! no i don't  but i do believe its still the original one which would be a one of the 1.6TD so ABH or ABS which both have similar gearing so if i go with that assumption until i can get underneath it (currently at my friends garage with the radiator out) the ring and pinion would ...

Re: gearbox / transmission that high rev problem at 70mph!
Do you know what gearbox code you have currently? If it was from a diesel originally it will be lower geared (as in higher revs) than a 4 or 5-speed from a petrol. By the way "final drive" is a different thing to "final gear"! The diesel boxes have a 5.something final drive and t...

Re: Inverter or 12v Laptop adaptor -
I tried a DC to DC converter for my laptop, I didn't trust it, used to get very hot, which I guess also means it can't have been very efficient. It also used to make a strange whistling sound when the 12 volt source dropped below a certain level, so I just didn't trust it. Much better results with a...

Re: non-T25 - aftermarket catalytic converters
Cheers guys, this gives me hope - it's down there for MOT now, gave it a good run first (difficult in Bristol at rush hour), but I now have hope that if it fails on emissions it's not a write-off!

non-T25 - aftermarket catalytic converters
Sorry for the non-T25 post, most of the car specific forums seem to be US orientated, so thought I might get some more relevant advice here. Besides my T25, the other burning hole in my pocket is a 2.0 petrol 1998 "new" beetle. The cat makes an annoying rattling sound and M.O.T. is imminen...

Re: Ricks Devon Moonraker 1z Tdi conversion
Haven't updated this in a while (or my blog), Rocky has been back on the road for a couple of months. Firstly, the bodywork has been tidied up, used a flap disc on an angle grinder to remove old filler and rust, kurust (just because I already had some), plastic padding and sanding and a couple of co...
