Re: 'Crashy' ride

How is the rest of your suspension? I was told my van was lowered 30mm, I've replaced everything on my suspension pretty much bar the springs and it has a much firmer ride than one would expect... I wonder if springs lose some of their elasticity with age?

Re: Introduction of E10 petrol

It depends what grade you fitted. I would avoid ever running E10 in an older vehicle, I accidentally did so briefly in Germany last year, the van DID NOT like it. The other concern is the perishable innards of things such as fuel pumps etc...

Had the same thing the other week....lots of cleaned connections, new fuse, new horn later and we're back up and running. Funny old things these old vans :)

Re: replacement suspension

I'm a big fan of the Bilstein B4 dampers linked to above, run them on my van, have run B4's on other vehicles as well, ever so slightly firmer but still plenty comfortable, and in my eyes a very reasonable price.

Re: Underbody rust, including beams

I'd wire brush everything down thats showing surface rust, paint Vactan on affected, then once dry use stone chip paint, or use something for underbody protection from the likes of Bilt-Hamber or Dinitrol. For box sections I'm a big fan of Dinitrol ML, can get it in aerosol form and use the extra lo...

I'll second both of those. Also, pro-active rust prevention, dinitrol ML in the cavities etc, oiling/greasing hinges/locks etc. is always good :)

Re: Which wax for winter protection.

I'm a big fan of Collinite 476...it's one of the toughest waxes you'll find and is billed as 'detergent proof'. As a bonus you can generally pick it up for around £20, one tin should last a long time. Word to the wise though, apply it thinly! It can be a sod to buff off if you go to thick with it.

Re: Which Satnav

I use a Tomtom Go 5200, lifetime updates, world maps, connects to your home wireless network for updating so no plugging into computers, can get traffic updates thru your phone via bluetooth, but otherwise isn't reliant on phone signal or data. Only downside is the battery life is rubbish so needs t...

Re: Under body paint/protection

As above, Dinitrol, Bilt Hamber etc. all offer better more modern solutions, please don't use that horrible old stuff in the tin, it's a dinosaur from the old days of car maintenance and mainly used to hide things, there's much better out there now. I cleaned down all the underside of mine and spray...

Re: Finding the right awning

My Khyam Motordome Sleeper works really well for us(you cna get the non-sleeper variety which is obviously smaller), the poles are in built and you can have it up in minutes between two of you, and pegged down a few more minutes from that, putting it away is similar. Downsides are the packed size is...

Re: Don't these vans drive you nuts?

I'm with Itchyfeet on this one. I shopped around for a decent van (took me a year to find one I was happy with), it came with next to no service history, so I've spent a fair bit of money this last year assuming ALL serviceable items needed doing, all the fluid changes, all the perishable fuel and b...

Do the clamps for your ARB have one bolt or two, per side? The bushes are different for both types. Sorry if you knew that already just might explain the different sizes :)

As above , don’t mix, but ideally pink g13(that’s the important bit), as it’s got the all important anti corrosives in.

Right swapped parts over, haven't had chance to do much else bar drive it a few hundred yards to my parents drive. Do we think the PO may have popped some radweld in at some point? http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k99/chino_uk/Rosy%20the%20T3/3C66555C-17D8-49BE-86E1-7BF1BA86124B_zpsqycnnevk.jpg

Re: Oil Breather Hose the Culprit?

Thanks both, I've not moved the van for now as fortunately it's not my daily. I've got the new parts to replace the knackered bits so will hopefully have them fitted one night after work, and I guess I'll be bleeding the coolant system after the new bleeder valve goes on(clue's in the name hah)?
