You didn't see Baxter at Mammut park then? He stays in Hotels and visits the german susage bugervan type thing several times an evening so seems to have those bases covered.
Was that the 'project' on ebay recently?

Re: How cool............Haflinger.
Looks like it was built by a blind man who had heard of "one of those Citroen beach buggy things" Yuk. Nearly as ugly as an Iltis. Haflingers predate the crappy plastic Citroen dyane based Méhari buggy though! Perhaps the Haf inspired Citroen to make the 4WD Méhari in the early 80's on th...

Re: 16" steelies on a 14"
Some people think my 14in looks a bit high for stock. Think its a combination of relatively small tyres (equivilent to the factory syncro optional 205R14) and a relitively lightweight van body/intereour (most are now heavy campers or kitted out in some form so thats what the eye is used to) so the t...

Re: BFG mud KM1 -v- KM2
Biggest resion for the design change was probubly something to do with reduiced rolling resistance and fuel economy - tyre manufacturers are getting pestered into fuel efficency too now, and like car manufacturers they might feel the need to trade off on performance to achive this, though I doubt BF...
Re: EPS
Do they have some sort of vehicle speed sensor with them to turn off/down assistance at speed? I drove a Corsa with electric steering a couple of years back and it felt horable on the motorway. Be interesting to see how well they'd work off road, in my opinion I've seen a few people get into trouble...

Re: Loss of Peak District rights of way
I also like AT tyres as should we really be anywhere where they cant take you, and they can dig a lot of soil and tempt you to make much more mess? Certainly a valid point in the peak district as a lot of the lanes have a stony( or gritstone) base so ATs are fine - hight is good to clear the rocks ...

Re: Is it the best thing to do?
Think I'm right in saying one thing you DON'T have to do when fitting an AAZ in a syncro van is trim the engine hatch to clear the AAZ injector pump, as the engine is mounted lower in a syncro shell so has enough hatch clearance already.

Re: How much would a synchro have cost when new?
Syncro was a £4k option in the UK, though that was twin lockers as standard so a european van with less difflocks would probubly have less of a markup. My Dad bought a rather high spec Caravelle GL auto new in 1987 for about £14k, Had a DJ, big sunroof, electric stuff, PAS (that was over a grand) AB...

Re: Spotted this Syncro on fleabay
If you want to buy a syncro in the UK, ie not go and import one (which would obveously be LHD), what is actully more common now? I bought a RHD (with a rather ironic numberplate  ) simply because the vehicle which came up at a tempting price when I was fealing stupid happened to be RHD, never g...

Re: Do I need a new Speedo Cable
Is the trip counter also underreading by loads (if so the clock is probubly fine)? If you take the cable off the diff can you turn it by hand easily (if so points more to drive pinion)? Is it clipped into the clock properly/fully (with an undamaged end as sometimes just the tip snaps off makeing dri...

Re: What tyres?
BFG A/T and M/T are not designed for snow so dont listen to them !!!! Actully I'm pritty sure BFGs are M+S rated (ATs at least), and personly I think they perform quite well in snow. If your landy is on 15in rims then its eather got the rare genuine rims made for sand tyres (or NAS spec) or more li...
