Re: T25 1.6D easy to stall, no low rpm torque

I have a 5 speed dog leg and you have to push down and across for 1st and reverse. 1st to 2nd takes a bit of getting used to but easy enough after a while.

Re: Early 1981 air-cooled not starting after fusebox cleanup

The starter solenoid is connected to the starter. I'm with Tobydog, could be you've disconnected or done something to the electric fuel pump.

Re: Early 1981 air-cooled not starting after fusebox cleanup

Think 12.3v is a bit low so definitely needs charging.

Re: Improving airflow in the engine room

The best thing for keeping air cooled cool is by making sure your tin ware is complete, the engine is clean especially the fins underneath and regular ie 3k miles/6mths oil and filter changes.

Re: Another rebuild already??

Mine, only one on a diesel, I suspect, was due to overheating. I am sure my mot guy left it running on its test and the fan never kicked in. Ran it for about a year with the problem, sometimes it was ok sometimes pressurising, eventually it was pressurising all the time. Yours, if not overheated, co...

Re: Another rebuild already??

Exact same symptoms as mine. After alot of chasing around including new thermostat, pump, coolant changes etc. It turned out to be a cracked cylinder head!

Re: dead Van?

All you are doing is using the leisure battery to jump start the van.
Alternatively you could swap it over just to see if you can get the engine to turn over.

Re: dead Van?

Run a set of jump leads from leisure to starter and see what happens.
Check your oil level first though, just in case.

Re: T25 5-speed gearbox

As said that's right. I might be doing this wrong but I only use 1st as a crawler or hill start gear. I use 2nd for all other starting.

Are the vw ones obsolete? If not try vw, most dealers have a parts department.
