Re: Diesel engine mount bars question
Diesel bars are diffrent on syncro to standard van because the engine is mounted lower (i think 25mm but someone correct me) you need to buy syncro specific engine bars or adjust standard ones by welding on a longer mounting plate to each end if you dont do this the prop shaft will run out of line a...

Re: anti roll bar drop links
When I broke mine and wanted to repair on the cheap, I descovered that the threaded part is actualy threaded into the cranked part. I drilled mine out and re tapped it, but I imagine it is a tollerence fit and so heat and some stillsons should do the job if you can get a grip on it I replaced it wit...

Re: want more wheel choice?
Yes your right, but even ET55 T4 wheels will go on without clearence issues, so I don't take the rules too seriously . wouldn't use chains with that et though Just thought that while I was there changing the studs for longer I would do the collar at the same time. I think the main problem with using...

want more wheel choice?
Heres a syncro specific tip that I am trying at the moment, I had the thought that the restricting factor on fitting wheels to my syncro is the front hub or more specificly the collar on the front hub As I have a spare set, I have nocked them appart,(bearings weren't destroyed but need to be kept cl...

Re: Any handy tips for stud removal?
I have sometimes used a mig welder and welded another nut onto them
I have found this a really efective way of applying intense heat quickly

Re: t4 wheels on t3 syncro
I have tried these, ET 55 off a T4 syncro, the centre bore is too small for the T3syncro, though i expect they will fit with a spacer as it carries the wheel away from the collar on the front hub. speaking of which, I was thinking of taking off the front hub and macheing this off,or down to 56mm flu...

Re: Portal axles
Thats what I was saying...no need to reverse the diffs! I think it would be easiest to make up a univesal bolt on box using some existing gears you could then change the final drive at the drop of a proverbial hat by changingthe gears to a diffrent ratio it would also need to carry the brakes I imag...

Re: Portal axles
I was thinkin that you could run an audi or subaru 4wd transmison and reverse the drive with a portal hub on each corner,so you get forwaqrd gears insted of reverse!

Cheapest tdi conversion?
Just helped convert a friends t25, I think it has to be the cheapest I have done, so it is possible to have your cake and eat it too! £120.00 bought him a 1Z and Landrover pump from the local breaker 2 days fettling and fitting his original turbodiesel parts No intercooler fitted ( could be problems...

I may be getting mixed up but I think the ajt engine has a seperate imo, it does on the t4 anyway. I have put an ALH (2001) into a crewcab using a kenedy adaptor plate. I got the ecu tweaked and de immobilized by a guy in poland, who incidendly did the whole lot much cheaper than you can get it done...

16 inch arms (even shorter legs!)
Has anyone out there ever considered making up a jig to lengthen the standard trailing arms to accommodate larger tyres AKA Syncro 16? From what I understand, this is exactly what VW did, when they produced the original. Anyone got a photo of a 16" arm to show where this cut and shut took place...

Gear Wanted
Please! please! does anyone out there have a broken or badly damaged gearbox they are prepared to sell parts from? I need to replace the low cross country gear( part number 094 311 368) on my gearbox after the synchro dog seized on it and burred it all up. It is the big gear on the outside of the ma...
