speedo glass

Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the curved speedo glass from the binnacle for cleaning? I mean without destroying the plastic!
Cheers

Re: fitting starter bush

Thanks Aidan
I'll give it a go then. I was wary of getting the old one out and not having access to drift the new one in from the engine bay, hadn't really considered access from below, probably cos I don't like axle stands and it seemed a bit cramped down there!

fitting starter bush

Hi

Just removed terminal starter and picking up an exchange unit on Friday. I've read the Wiki and got the oilite bush but am wondering how realistic it is to change this on the roadside, as far as I can see I'll have to work blind from the engine bay.

Thanks

Re: Syncro gearbox lifespan

Oh dear! what have I started (restarted?)! I was about to ask another question (confirming the GL4/5 classification of Fuchs Gear Syn) and would you know it, he'd gone and answered it in advance (it's ok)! Cheers. I thought it might help if I post the GSF part no's as they appear to have changed fro...

Re: gearbox oil recommenmdations/advice needed

This has turned into an 'interesting debate' over on the Syncro forum. Re: gearbox oil recommenmdations/advice needed

Thanks everyone, including those who responded on the synchro forum. I think it's going to be 4ltrs of Millers then.

Re: Syncro gearbox lifespan

Thanks everyone. I feel happy now I can make my mind up on something! I just need to decide between Millers (used to use it in my Beesa) and Fuchs that I use now. Cheers Aidan, I'll go the 4ltr route I think.

I wish I was in Oz, instead I'm just a thread hijacker.

Re: gearbox oil recommenmdations/advice needed

Thanks I should also have specified the oil more! As per Wiki 'Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, originally in the Vanagon VW called for either an 80W or a 80W-90 GL4 fluid according to my guide. The MTL is an 70W80, a suitable replacement for the original 80W, the MT-90 is a 75W90 viscosity a ...

gearbox oil recommenmdations/advice needed

Apologies, I initially responded to a forum search for MT90 and then realised it was in the synchro forum, should have posted here. Hi I'm feeling slightly paranoid as I'm now on a s/h box (1.9dg/4spd manual) following failure of original and want to make sure I give it every chance I can! This seem...

Re: Syncro gearbox lifespan

Hi I'm feeling slightly paranoid as I'm now on a s/h box (1.9dg/4spd manual) following failure of original and want to make sure I give it every chance I can! This seems to be MT90 or MTL. my questions are; can anyone give me feedback on performance? I suspect that as a daily driver on fairly long t...

Re: 1.9dg Firing Order

My dizzy had been rebuilt with the drive dog replaced 180 deg out. Simplest answer, other than remove and dismantle dizzy drive shaft end was to move all the plug leads by 180deg clockwise when looking down on dizzy from rear.

Good luck.

timing advice needed

Hi Just replaced the vacuum advance on my '87 1.9 DG and slightly confused by the timing. I've read the WIKI but feeling a bit dense. I had to start somewhere so checked for true TDC to calibrate the pulley timing notch and then marked up + and - 5, 10 to 14 and 24 to 28degrees. With static set at 5...

Re: Buying a new sound system info?

Hi Chris

They're the 350mm ones from Just Kampers (they also do a 500mm version). Not bad and they do have a shaped bit of a drinks holder, ok for plastic bottles etc but not for hot drinks. I would probably move them along a bit if I had to fit them again though.
