Re: No fuel to engine bay ‘81 CU

I can't tell you the bit size for the screws but it was a standard hi-torque one in my tool box set.

Are they really zip-ties used to secure the fuel hoses :0

Re: Balancing 34-PDSIT Carbs on 1982 Aircooled CU 2.0L Engine

Did you check the air flow with the balance bar disconnected? I've been messing with my van recently and found the ball socket on the right hand end had gone AWOL and the ball was loose on the carb bracket. With the bar connected I was getting 6kg/h on the right and 7kg/h on the left at idle. As I i...

Distributor roll pin / retaining pin size?

I've decided to rebuild a spare dizzie that has been gathering dust in a box. I stripped it down years ago trying to unsuccessfully fix a faulty hall sensor. Today when I started to put it back together I found that the pin that locks the rotor has gone AWOL. Does anyone know what size it is and whe...

Re: CU engine - Mechanical Pump - Engine cutting out

Pull the plug off the dizzie. Pull the king lead off the centre of the distributor. Push a piece of wire into the middle of the dizzie plug (the green wire on the loom). Turn the ignition on. Hold the free end of the king lead near the engine block. Touch the end of the wire against the engine block...

Re: CU engine - Mechanical Pump - Engine cutting out

Well, I've learnt an important lesson. Even when I sure I know what the problem is, I should still systematically check everything. I convinced myself and the AA man it was a fuel problem. The way the van would start and run and then stall, shouted fuel issues. I even convinced myself the back firin...

CU engine - Mechanical Pump - Engine cutting out

Hi all. It's been a while but I've broken my van again.  Yesterday after spending a couple of weeks camping in Cornwall, the AA had to relay me home. The van started fine at the Lizard and drove fine as far as Truro. I stopped and put 45ltrs of petrol at a Shell garage and headed off towards St Aust...

Re: Ebike conversion kits.. who's fitted one.

I bought an already converted mountain bike for my girlfriend last year. It's got a twist throttle and cadence sensor with 3 "assist" settings. I switched jobs recently and as the new job is only a 3 mile each way commute, I decided to use the leccy bike. It's got off-road gear ratios so i...

Re: Complete Zig unit rewire

If I was going to re-wire mine I'd take loads of digital photos before I started, and then start changing the wires one for one. When it's time to re-fit check none of the new connectors can't touch any of the bare metal inside the case especially the incoming mains to the battery charger. If you ca...

Re: Complete Zig unit rewire

The wiring is pretty basic but some of the joints are soldered inside the unit. Why do you need to re-wire it?

A CF8 hasn't got a separate switch for lights. I've got LED strips wired off the loom where the old spot light was. They came with a remote control so the lights run off that.

Re: Engine keeps dying

Do you get a good flow out of the tank pipe before you fit the filter? It might be the pipes inlet inside the tank has got blocked by rust & spiders ;)

Re: home made heat exchangers?

Didn't bother insulating it, just used it as is. I can't remember how much I bought, but 2-3 mtrs is probably enough depending on how you route it.
