Re: Blowing exhaust - suggestions, please?
Had the same problem where the bolt had sheared off half way down its threaded hole so was effectively held by one bolt. When it blew I replaced the gasket and a new bolt with coppaslip on the thread and exhaust pasted it all and it lasted for a year but I do a low mileage. I carried spares to do it...

Re: Exhaust replacement, 1.9 watercooled, petrol 1990 (H)
Had mine done by a local garage as I just couldn't face the problem with the studs. I enquired afterwards and they said they had a bit of a job with a wry smile. Steel nuts rusting onto on steel exhaust studs has been the bane of my life. When I used to replace any of the three boxes on the several ...

Re: Hard top vs pop top ??
My local Council Car Parks have a height limit of 2.25 metres like many others including holiday resorts. That's my main criteria for having a pop top. Pop tops have less wind resistance at the front so possibly better MPG. Hi tops have more wind resistance on the sides so more correcting during sid...

Re: Quieting engine noise
With the rear box and mattress and bedding on top of that I don't hear any engine noise despite one clip being bust and foam sealant around lid fitting where it touches. Quietist stroke I ever pulled was to replace the rusted tail end on the exhaust pipe to direct exhaust to the rear instead of boun...

Re: New User (with questions!)
Just a few observations on postings on this topic. First of all welcome , its a great life. WD 40 is useful for freeing up parts and has its uses but it very quickly evaporates and is a transient lubricant and does not compare with proper oil. 3 in 1 oil is for sale as a spray. My first van was murd...

Re: Core Plug Popped On Today's Trip To Belgium
Araldite is good stuff. Knew a guy back in the 70's 's whose gasket had been going for a while leaving a groove in the alloy head. He filled the groove with Araldite and it lasted for years.

Re: Adjustable Push Rod Tubes - Watercooled 1.9dg
Had this problem once and was told by a local specialist VW garage that even if unbolted the head may not come off anyway and could not answer for the consequences of trying to remove it. They never mentioned telescopic tubes and I was overjoyed when I found that telescopic ones could be fitted to s...

As one of them owned a T25 as a project for Aerospace Apprentices with the use of a wind tunnel they took his 1985 2L water cooled and highly polished it, removed the front bumpers, wipers, wing mirrors and ground off the forward facing seams either side of the windscreen and blocked off the grill a...

Water pressure in garden hoses puzzle
To test for a roof leak in a controlled manner I wish to apply water from a garden hose to the top of my roof which is approximately 30 feet high. Would the hydrostatic pressure allow this ? My water tank in the roof is about 10 feet shorter than this but is of course " hard wired" so to s...

Re: Devon pop top fitting help.
Dealing with struts may be the biggest problem. When replacing some expanding struts I recall I compressed them and tied them closed and snipping the string when appropriate. . Also I seem to remember making a Spanish Windlass to compress them. Sorry cannot be more explicit but it was a long time ag...

Do Specsavers sell X-Ray vision spectacles then . When I were but a young adolescent lad Comics like Hotspur and Rover etc., had advertisements for such devices with the promise that you could see through girls clothes. They didn't work. Neither did the gadget to see around corners, to be able to se...

Everyones on the make
Have anyone else noticed the growing number of television programmes on people on the make. We seem to be turning into a nation of Del Boys. Even Antiques Auctions are often selling just Bric -a Brac. Nothing new I suppose ever since 50 years ago Michael Miles was "opening the box" on 405 ...

Re: Can anyone recommend a dehumidifier for camper
Google Amazon with dehumidifier non electric. The one posted by slippy8v looks like the Unibond aero 360 retailing for £13.99 reduced from £19.99. Probably have to pay carriage but not necessarily.Check Asda or others first .
