had the same problem. I fitted a helicoil. I was able to drill out the hole and fit the heli-coil without removing the exhaust. Can't remember the thread size.
Flush the engine afterwards, make sue you get rid of all the swarf.
Good luck

Trouble after head gasket/seal change
Just changed the head gasket/seal today. All seemed well and the engine turned well by hand and then on the starter. When I try to start the engine it won't start. Was running out of time but checked each plug had a good spark and fuel was going thru the carb, but still won't start. Has anyone else ...

Which Service kit do I need for Pierburg 2E3 Carburettor?
I want to buy service/overhaul kit for my carburettor, Pierburg 2E3, but I seem to remember from previous posts there are some differences, different accelerator pumps/diaphragms if I remember correctly. I want to order the bits tomorrow and want to try to get the right kit first time, does anyone k...

Need a new Vacum advance
I want to replace the vacum advance on my van. Just spoke to Euro car parts and they tell me there isn't one listed. Does anyone know where I can get one from? I seem to remember talking to someone a few years ago who suggested using a unit off a 009 distributor (you have to re-drill the fixings). C...

I checked the vacum take off for the brakes, initially I thought it wasn't on tight enough although after refitting it didn't make any difference. The gas analyser I borrowed was playing up so that didn't help, I'm trying to borrow another one. In my mind I'm either not generating (loosing) vacum, o...

Yeap, I've changed plugs and leads, they had no effect. I haven't yet checked the trottle spindle for wear, how much wear is too much? I set the van slightly richer at idle, if definately sounds better but it's still hesitates (slightly) when I pull off in 1st gear, I'm getting to the point of just ...

Van hesitant and low co readings
My van is slightly hesitant whilst accelerating when the engine is warm but not up to running temperature. I've checked the timing, replaced fuel filter, cleaned carb, etc. At the MOT last week I noticed the CO reading was very low, maybe I have an air leak on the inlet? Does anyone know a good way ...

Engine hesitant and keeps stoppping
My van has broken down three times in six weeks. The van seems o.k. from cold, maybe slightly hesitant whilst accelerating. Once hot it becomes more hesitant and occasionally the engine has died. Sometimes it restarts and all is o.k., sometimes it restarts but it's difficult to keep the engine going...
