Re: T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

Thanks Oldiebut

That's what my garage said too...essentially the exhaust is all bolted together with the engine now, so yes, it should all wobble in unison.
Not an easy fix, this one, but at least we got a work-round in the end.

If I ever need to replace the engine I'll be going back to a JX!

Re: T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

It's fixed!

Got my local garage guy today to sort it out, had to cut new exhaust pipe in 3 places, re-weld etc, and fit back in place. Binned the flexi, so we'll see how much vibration we get on the longer runs...

And breathe...for now!

Re: T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

I think that would explain it then! All search engines (DVLA/Insurers etc) always bring up "1.7 diesel" when I enter my reg number. But it has a 1.6 replacement engine. But the V5C says 1.6, not 1.7, confusingly. I think the associated paperwork with the van is Frankenstein-style too! I gu...

Re: T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

Yes, it's a right old mess! This is why I keep having problems and much head scratching when I look at on-line help, photos etc...because they mean nothing when compared to this damn thing! It keeps trundling on though. I was thinking the same thing re. the new exhaust part....I'm guessing 2 cuts......

Re: T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

P.S.
This is the engine, complete with bodged cut outs in the housing to make it fit!
Can anyone confirm what it's from?
It ain't pretty, but it works!

Re: T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

Hi It wouldn't surprise me if it was a home-made exhaust. The whole engine has been botched to fit, and this is why I've been advised by a few mechanics to replace it someday with a proper engine, as it's a real Frankenstein! The previous owner (who bought it in it's current condition) had a suspici...

Re: T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

Thanks both. I always had a good service from JK before...but yes this time they do seem to have sold me something just for the fk of it. I have uploaded some photos to photobucket...shows the problem. You should be able to work out which is the old and which is the new part. Any ideas if the new pa...

T25 1.6 TD exhaust problem

Hi everyone I recently lost the the connecting pipe on the exhaust, that runs from the manifold, down to the silencer (it's a standard silencer box). I thought I had sourced the correct replacement from Just Kampers, but my mechanic at my regular garage says it's not got the correct flange (at the m...

Re: Battery Earth location

Thanks everyone....been on holiday but have now fixed it! I took the advice and cleaned up all the battery connections, positive and negative, and wire-brushed and greased the earth points...it now starts straight away! Didn't realise such a small thing as oily crud would prevent it from starting. T...

Re: Battery Earth location

Thanks all ...I will try the doubling-up of the earth I think, and see if that makes a difference!

Hey ho...wish me luck (I am such a novice!)

Re: Battery Earth location

Thanks, good information point!

Given my expertise in this area, it looks like an auto-electrician job.
The van is actually up for grabs if anyone can be arsed with it cos it's a bit of an electrical wreck!

Battery Earth location

Hi all I've had a search through the forum, and can't find an answer for this one! I'm having starting issues at the moment, and thought it may be due to having the incorrect alternator on my van (bought a replacement one)...but now I've been told it could be an earthing issue. I've had a look at wh...

Re: 1.6 Turbo Diesel alternator

I can get a photo tomorrow when it's light, so yeah will try and post one up. Thanks for the words of reassurance. Basically the alternator has been reluctant to charge properly, and yesterday totally gave up the ghost when I accidentally switched the engine off whilst in gear, and I haven't been ab...

1.6 Turbo Diesel alternator

Hi all A bit of newbie, so please bear with me. The alternator on my 1989 T25 has finalyl died. I know nothing about it except the specialist garage has told me that it's not the right one for my 1.6 TD engine (which was also bodged from a scrapped Passat). I've made some calls today, and no-one sto...

Thanks camper, great links - might have to ask Famous Phil for more advice, seems he knows exactly what he's doing!
