Although I've never been a member myself I hear that the German ADAC service is excellent. (Cover in the UK is provided by the AA)

Re: Breakdowns on French motorways
Broke down in France last year with knackered gearbox - full details elsewhere on this forum but the pertinent parts here; Having purchased RAC European cover I was told "English speaking assistance available 24/7" - no-one told me that when you break down on a motorway YOU have to call th...

Don't feel 'outgunned' by the big white delivery vans. It's being different that makes us special.

Re: france passion ettiquette question....
We like to plan roughly and just have an outline of what we are doing. We mainly go to Aires de Service and have only ever found one that we could not get into as it was full beyond bursting. We love getting to Honfleur and a way further down the coast the beautiful beach at Loquirec. A few years ba...

Re: Engine gearbox mismatch?
UPDATE Found a replacement 5 speed diesel box on ebay for only £250 and £35 to courier it from kent to Shropshire. Absolute bargain!! Garage have removed old box and found a huge scoring mark around the inside of the bell housing. When the new engine was fitted should the original 1.6td flywheel hav...

Re: NEW FERRY UPDATE
Last few years been to France with T25 and trailer or teardrop on the back. Have always found Norfolk Line (now DFDS?) Dover to Dunkirk to be BY FAR the cheapest option. Also nicely appointed boats never too crowded. Last year we had travelled Dover to Calais with P&O to try to cut down travelli...

Re: Engine gearbox mismatch?
It seems that engine is fine but box is knackered, even beyond being an exchange unit for reconditioning. It is also the case that the professional mechanic I paid to install the box did not fit a spigot bearing and hence why it is knackered a matter of months later. You would hope that taking it to...

Re: Engine gearbox mismatch?
Update: have contacted local garage who will remove box, check for spigot bearing, change seals etc. When we initially broke down the RAC sent a flatbed with only two passenger seats. There were four of us to travel. In fairness the first patrolman concluded that there were two of us as he noticed m...

Re: Engine gearbox mismatch?
Thanks for that - makes sense. The original gearbox knackered after garage replaced engine. Replacement box lasted about a year, not many miles though - mostly to work and back about 10 miles a day. Here is a link to a better picture - what I originally thought was a gap is in fact covered by a sort...

I have a 2002 Passat SE TDi, the 'red' badge version with 130bhp. Engine code starts AWX.
What are the options regarding installing this engine (and gearbox???) into my T25?
Chris

Engine gearbox mismatch?
My van is 1990 Westfalia California origianlly 1.6td JX engine with 5 speed box. About two years ago head blew on engine and I had it replaced with 1.9 diesel, which I was told was an ideal swap. I have since had numerous issues where I have doubted the garage who did that work and will never go bac...

Re: Loud grinding noise when clutch is depressed
I have a 1990 Westfali Califrnoia with a 5 speed box. Last year in france it decided to seize on the motorway (definitely not good) Could write at great length about poor RAC European cover but won't here. However, trying to find another 5 speed box was almost impossible! I was seriously considering...
