Re: Build Project: Wilbur’s 2.1 DJ

Hi Wilbur, I was reading this post about your 2.1 DJ rebuild with interest as i'm about to go through the same. Can I ask a couple of questions? You mentioned a rebuild in 2017 for your camper - is this engine still going well and who did the rebuild? And how is this current rebuild doing? any recom...

Re: Busman Be

Hi, If you don't know your way fully around a Syncro I would definitely recommend Mike. He doesn't just sell them he drives them, so he'll give you an honest assessment of what he knows needs doing to the van. I bought my van from him nearly 6 years ago & have never looked back............he eve...

Re: Front Outer CV Boot

Just checked & as I suspected I found a spacer positioned on the other side of the diff. Thanks again Jes for the link & helping get to the bottom of this.

Re: Front Outer CV Boot

Jes you b*st*rd what are you trying to do? kill me?! Its actually not a daft question, but it did induce me to sprint to the shed with a tape in my hand! thankfully they are the same!! but thanks for the heads up as I'm now on a quest to get the right boots and draw this job to a quick & s...

Re: Front Outer CV Boot

Thanks Jes, I followed that thread taking some additional dims, counting splines etc & I have a 14" axle that must have been retro fitted when the van was residing in Sweden. Aidan, I'll have a chat with Simon tomorrow regarding the new boots, I fancy fitting new ones now given the journey ...

Re: Are you a MTB'er?

Afternoon, I fancy hooking up for a bike ride. North Wales is good or if someone knows where to camp in the Dark Peaks around Edale, Hope, Hayfield etc I'll sort out the route with pleasure!

Re: Front Outer CV Boot

Hi, I was going to refit the spacer but it was fitted between the CV joint & the metal collar of the boot, it shows in the Bentley manual that it should be between the CV & the box so that's what I was going to do, as in the current location it stops the boot sitting on the CV correctly. I'v...

Re: Front Outer CV Boot

Hi Jes & Lloyd As I said to Aidan the dia is 90mm & the overall length about 175mm. The new boots I have are the same reference as your's Lloyd, 23508. When I separated the boot from the inner CV I found a spacer / washer to one side, which I know shouldn't have been there. I just put this d...

Re: Front Outer CV Boot

Morning Aidan They are definitely the 90mm & the boots I took off are white (ish) in colour (or at least they were at some point!), so it sounds like they are the early ones. What I'm slightly confused about is I thought the diff lock was just in the box & I regularly put the front diff lock...

Front Outer CV Boot

Just in the process of replacing all the CV boots to the front of my van. It is a 1989 16" Syncro with front diffs. I got the replacement boots from Mr Baxter. The axles came out relatively easy after a bit of experimentation, so much so I was going to post a blog on it as it doesn't involve ha...

Re: Occasional high idle speed prob... 2.1DJ.

hi, I haven't got power steering on my vehicle so I can't comment on whether that would affect is so drastically. My symptoms were that the van would drive perfect for prolonged periods & then without any consistency the idle would go through the roof............normally when stationary in queui...

Re: Occasional high idle speed prob... 2.1DJ.

hi, I had a very similar problem a couple of years back & followed the same path, water coolant sensor, ideal speed regulator etc & then came across this article; http://www.benplace.com/vanagon_intermittent_syndrome.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Basically, the...
