Re: Stripped oil pressure sender

It's been a while since I started this thread, life got in the way of fixing the van, but I thought I'd update in case anyone else suffers the same problem. Thanks for all the suggestions, in the end I ordered a 1/8 NPT bottoming tap and stainless adaptor and successfully fitted it yesterday. I put ...

Re: Stripped oil pressure sender

Thanks for the replies, I'd rather not use a helicoil as I doubt I could fit it with no swarf falling inside - and the engine will definitely have to come out to get a drill in square. Might be the final option though... I'd considered chemical metal but I reckon getting everything oil free enough f...

Stripped oil pressure sender

I've managed to strip the oil pressure sender thread between the pushrod tubes while changing a previous owners failed sender relocation bodge for the Brickwerks one. I had real trouble getting the thread started as the hose was pushing the banjo fitting to one side but managed it by holding the fit...

Re: Replacing the dashboard plastic PCB

I've got a silhouette portrait vinyl cutter which I've used to make custom vinyl decals for the kids bikes, I'm not sure if it is accurate enough to cope with really fine detail like the polarity signs in the battery light icon but I was very surprised at how small a detail it can cut. If you pm or ...

Re: Replacing the dashboard plastic PCB

My kit has arrived today, it really is fantastic quality and includes absolutely everything you could need (except for someone with a steady hand to solder it for me  ) the documentation is also excellent.

Massive thanks to Chris for the effort he's put into this kit :D

Re: DG engine clacking noise :(

If you've not already started stripping the engine it's worth trying some wynns hydraulic valve lifter treatment, it really does what it says on the tin :D I had a very sticky lifter that 3 oil changes with engine flush used each time didn't clear stuck some of the wynns in and within 10mins the noi...

Re: wheeze gasp splutter

Must be the time of year for this to happen, my van which has been running faultlessly for ages has started doing this as well  I wonder whether it could be an air leak :?: I replaced the vacuum pipes from carb to dizzy and airbox before xmas as one of them was completely shot but the only repl...

Re: sos - van wont start after being idle for a few weeks

If I remember correctly mine was just over 1mm short and even taking near to 1.5mm off the spacer it still wasn't pumping enough, another thing to check is the spindle that the fuel pump lever is fitted with, my pump was only about 3 years old (which is why I spent ages looking for other reasons I w...

Re: sos - van wont start after being idle for a few weeks

Mine did this, turned out that the pushrod which actuated the fuel pump had worn down. I've now fitted a facet pump :ok

Re: Main water pipe fitting

It's much easier if you drop the tank, it's not that hard to do as long as it's nearly empty, there is a big jubilee clip holding the pipes in place just inside the crossmember at the rear of the tank that is an absolute ***** to remove. When I did mine I spent longer trying to break that clamp than...

Re: Knock nock: who's there ? Then silence

You can often quieten noisy cv joints by grabbing the driveshafts and shaking them in and out a few times, it's no substitute for stripping and regreasing them properly but could stop the noise for a few thousand miles till you get round to doing it (I've been meaning to do mine for close to 10k mil...

Re: Diagnostic help please.....

Have you replaced the fuel filter yet? I had similar symptoms (but without the backfire when revving) a few years ago and the fuel filter was completely blocked with crud. There should only be one filter on a carb engined van - right next to the fuel tank on the drivers side. It could also be an air...

Re: battery replacement

Halfords batteries are very good quality (think they are still made by Yuasa for them), and they do the bosch silver as well, If you're going to buy from euro then avoid the Lion batteries, Bosch and Exide are good though  I agree that halfords ones are expensive - unless you've got a trade car...

Re: Head Lights, Swapping Pre H4 for H4 Lights

True about the wattage but the 1976 regulations limit the aggregate maximum intensity of the headlamp beams which can be switched on simultaneously must not exceed 225,000 cd. Wow, you've obviously got a far better grasp on the regulations than I ever had  out of interest I wonder how that ma...

Re: oil pressure gauge, help/advice

I ran some 5 core alarm cable up the van to use for sensors and tach signal, it wont cope with much current but is fine for this. I got a massive roll from wickes a couple of years ago for about £7. I ran it from the black box on the engine bulkhead following the original loom (it is thin enough to ...
