Supply of 1y's dwindling? If so what's the easiest transplan
New van, 1y 1.9 with a turbo fitted, water hose split, dumped water, didn't catch it in time cooked the engine. Have very limited time so looking to do the simplest engine swap possible (I've done a 1.6 1y to 1.9 1y non turbo in precious van so would like to do a similar swap on this new van) if I c...

Re: Poo plate - What vehicle/where to buy?
For what it's worth, I've just taken delivery of this poo plate from brickwerks I'm sticking a 1.9 1y back in my van with a 4 speed manual and this (2 part) poo plate fits perfectly and is a welcome area of shine\y in an otherwise grubby area!

Jettisoning silencer at 70mph
So there I was happy as Larry heading down the m4 at 70mph when there was a scraping noise followed by a bang. I looked in the rear view mirror to see my silencer skating down the road and then bouncing end over end just before disappearing under the wheels of an artic. Luckily no one was hurt and m...

weldore wrote:use the housings off the old engine that have the older sensors in them to match your wireing
would that just mean connecting the red/yellow wire to the "drawing pin" connector on the old housing?

1y Temp Sender Query 1 pin? 4 pin? drawing pin?
Hello, Before I get flamed... I've been trawling the forum and wiki since 8 o'clock this morning trying to work out how to get my temp gauge to work. I've shorted the red and yellow wire and that seems to be all in order, gauge rises to the top... The LED flashes and then turns off so I'm working on...

Re: Any ideas? 1Y Inlet Manifold removal
Aha! removing the engine mount! that'd do it... however I managed to find a third way. Managed to get the stuck 6mm allen bolt out when I noticed that hex bits (like from a cordless screwdriver etc.) are ever so slightly bigger than 6mm... so I managed to Hammer in a 1/2 inch drive to hex bit adpate...

I like the hammering idea
Should have thought of that!
Will give that a go

Any ideas? 1Y Inlet Manifold removal
So, with loads of help from the good folk on this forum I have undertaken my first full engine transplant (the first of many I've got a feeling!) I dropped out the 1.61y NA lump and replaced it with a 1y 1.9 out of a seat IBIZA, swapped all the necessary bits over and jobs a good 'un. Trouble is (we...

Re: Big boys broke my throttle and ran off...
Thanks for the suggestion. I am a good citizen of the internets and I usually spend an hour or two scouring the forums and wiki's before I resort to posting a question. I couldn't find anything in the Wiki specific to the injector pump linkage assembly on a 1y engine or anything related. I'm hoping ...

Re: Big boys broke my throttle and ran off...
Cheers for the reply.
I don't want to use the Seat linkage as it is too high and would involve chopping a whole in the engine lid. What I'd like to do it move the linkage from the old engine onto the new one, however I have made it very difficult for myself and was looking for a little guidance...

Big boys broke my throttle and ran off...
1.9 1y Alright the title isn't strictly true but... I'm just finishing sticking (installing!) a 1.9 1y out of a seat ibiza into my van, only thing needed is to change the throttle linkage on the injector pump The one on the ibiza engine what looks like a gas strut attached to it. and as a double spr...

Re: Bulkhead removal on a twin-slider
Hello twin sliders, I've also been contemplating what to do with the back of my van. I've still got bulkhead in, have you seen (or got) any good ideas on twin slider camper/dayvan layouts? I'm just getting to the end of getting mine reengined and mot'd now I've got to start thinking about making it ...
