IS THE TIMING OUT OR IS THIS SOMETHING ELSE?

Got the garage to fit a new timing belt to my 1600D na. They recommended a new belt for water pump pulley. Anyway, got van home and changed engine oil, oil filter and air filter then set off on a 300 mile round trip. After five miles came to a straight and put the boot down and it felt like i was ru...

Crankshaft Pulley Removal - Cam belt change

1600D CS 1983 When changing the timing belt the books says remove the crankshaft (ie bottom) pulley. The bolts look very difficult and like they need an allen key - is that right? Can anyone tell me if its possible to get the timing belt off/new one on without removing the bottom pulley? Wondered if...

Re: How can I make my van faster up hills/ motorway ?

I replaced my throttle cable and was amazed at the difference in performance. There was a break in the cable cover where muck and rust had accumulated, so the cable wasn't responding properly and I don't think it was getting full throttle. (Not the same engine by the way - 1600D)

Re: Alignment for belt change 1600D

Brilliant!! Think I'm ready to tackle this now! With these tools I could go anywhere. Perhaps VW will give me a job. Better ensure the nails are metric!
Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.

Re: Alignment for belt change 1600D

Thanks, OBG. I didn't know about the string trick so as I was going to do the tensioner as well that certainly makes it an option. Wonder what the chances are of the belt breaking? I take it you've used this high tech alternative? Will a stanley knife do the job? Did you turn the engine to get to th...

Alignment for belt change 1600D

I really need to pluck up some courage to change the timing belt on my 1983 1600D. Got all the complete belt change kit from Brickwerks eons ago. I'm concerned about getting the cylinder alignment right for TDC. When aligning the flywheel for TDC does the mark rotate each single revolution into the ...

oil warning light out

1983 1600 cs na diesel During the last few weeks when I've switched the ignition on from cold recently the oil warning light would flicker then go out as normal when engine was turned. Now the oil warning light doesn't come on at all when ignition is on. I'm a bit wary about messing about at the bac...

Re: Throttle Cable Replacement - Procedure - LHD 1600D

Cable replacement was easier than expected. Only three places to detach - at pedal, engine bay, and rear cross member. Basically same procedure as Wiki by HacksawBob, except you can't access via front indicator. Have to drop spare wheel. Was surprised to find the cable feeds across from nearside to ...

Throttle Cable Replacement - Procedure - LHD 1600D

My accelerator pedal keeps sticking despite lubricating the bits at both ends. Reading a few posts on here, looks like I have to replace the cable. Anyone got a step by step guide to replacement procedure on a LHD 1983 1600cs na diesel? Maybe a new cable will make it go faster ... err.. less slow! H...

Re: Rubbing Noise Rear Kerbside Wheel

Took the bus to the garage and they've saved me a lot of unnecessary expence. They found the cause was a .... FOREIGN BODY IN THE BRAKE DRUM! There was bit of metal about 4cm x 1cm which looks like a broken clip of some sort which had found its way into the drum. That explains the sound like a worn ...

Hullo Faggie

Thanks for the reply. Will get the wagon into the garage and get both rear bearings replaced. Maybe get an extra mph out of it!

Cheers

Rubbing Noise Rear Kerbside Wheel

Hullo folks, Getting a rubbing sound I think its from the rear kerbside wheel when I take a right. It sounds like a brake drum rubbing but why would it be worse turning a corner? Drum felt warm after a five mile run (a bit warmer than the other one). At MOT in July got an advisory for slight play in...
Hey, Just a note, I had a similar problem a while back with the sensor light flashing, and after a little investigation it turned out the printed circuit board in the dash was loose. So i secured it and the problems fixed. Simple success
Had a look round the circu...
