Re: Advice on engine gearbox upgrade for a 16"
Bigblue16, I'm in a similar situation with my 16 and planning for this over the next 18months. Absolutely love my syncro, but want to make some improvements over time; much as I like the reliability of my little 1.6TD lump, it's lack of power/gearing can be tiresome on a long drive. I'm of the mind ...

Can't make this one - stuck in Bahrain with work until early March.
Would be good to meet some of the local Syncros when I get back though, Ady/Ally+Rob.

Re: Aren't VCs great ...solid shafters, eat yer eart out!
I just can't imagine anything that's more forgiving, gives so much immediate feedback yet also such an incredible traction control device as a VC - other than ultra-modern electronic systems. Before I reached the end of my quest for the (almost)perfect 4x4 (I'm there now, have my Syncro!), about 5 ...

Re: First Time Green Laning - recommendations?
allx_b, I did my first bit of green laning at one of the 'informal' meets that are posted on here from time to time (see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61464&start=0). If you are prepared to make the hike (and you are slightly closer than me) we had a lot of fun in January at the SW Syncro meet; just w...

Re: Just removed the turbo
lloydy, This had happened with my 16, the downpipe from turbo to muffler had been previously repaired and exactly that - mig weld over the studs! As necessity to get it on the road I replaced the downpipe and 3 studs but could not remove the fourth; it's been fine for 18 months or so and never blows...

Re: rear racks
Very nice stuff from Gary Lee. I have a swing away wheel carrier which came with my Syncro when I bought it (not fitted yet tho) and it's a very well thought out and made piece of kit. I was after a rear ladder/cycle carrier from him but unfortunately he was quoting (apologetically) $195 CAN for shi...

Re: Clutch problems post starter motor change (Sorted!)
Ok, problem solved! First plan of attack was to bleed the clutch and see if that made any difference. Things improved a little, pedal feel much better, but still the reluctance to change gear. Decided to bite the bullet and replace the slave cylinder and bingo! When I did a side by side new and old,...

Re: Clutch problems post starter motor change
Yes, I think so; the one that points down at about 45 degrees and towards the front, that's the one I loosened off in order to rotate the slave bracket downwards. Had another look over today and still no obvious leaks and the reservoir level hasn't budged that I can see. Wondering if I have caused a...

Clutch problems post starter motor change (Sorted!)
Hi All, Ok, I now have some problems changing gear, almost certainly caused after changing the Starter motor on my 1.6TD Syncro. To remove the old starter and refit the new one involved undoing the forward part of the clutch slave cylinder bracket and then rotating the bracket downwards/anti-clockwi...

Re: Syncro gearbox lifespan
Interesting thread! Just to throw my experiences in, I changed my g/box oil late last year, reason being peace of mind as I had recently aquired the vehicle (and yes, bit of a fiddle with the underbody protection, but not so bad!).Oil that came out was reasonably clean with the usual fir tree on the...

Re: This doesn't happen very often down here!
Cheers Simon.
Hopefully I may get to some of the SW meets, it's not too far a trek from here. I have lots of plans to 'camperise' the 16 as and when funds permit, so it would be good to get some tips!
