Now i have your attention, what is the average gap between the door and the piller on the front doors, mine seems to wide to me and the door springs when you push them closed slowly, they need a firm hard push to shut, is this common. Hi.
It sounds like you may need new gas struts, it should just pop up with a good push, i know they are heavy lids but not so heavy that you cant lift them. Gas struts is the answer!

you will need to supply pics of the van and maybe get a mechanic to write a letter stating it's condition and value, then it's down to them to agree it!

Then i would suggest that you pay the extra tenner or so and have an assured value put on it
