Re: Water Pump - leaking sludge?

Thanks for advice, Ian. New pump is on its way from Brickwerks.

Rusty sludge in the coolant can't be a good thing - certainly doesn't bode well for the head studs does it.....

Water Pump - leaking sludge?

Hi all, My van (1986 1.9 DG) has suffered a few coolant issues lately - some minor leaks from pipe unions that I couldn''t seem to stop despite refitting replacing pipe clips, and making sure the joints were well fitted. Haven't had to replace much coolant and that I have put in has held in the syst...

Re: Cooling system pressurised when cold!?

Ah, good point about the heating! 1st time I bled the system it was on, but now you've said it I realise I forgot to switch it on the second time. I'll try again tonight. If that doesn't solve the issue I'll try a new cap.

Thanks for your replies.

Cooling system pressurised when cold!?

Hi All, hope you can help as this is puzzling me a bit: 1986 1.9 DG Petrol Fitted a new header tank cap (Brickwerks) after the last one wasn't holding pressure at all. Cooling system has since been bled a couple of times via the radiator bleed screw. I've been on a long run to Cornwall and back from...

Re: hc emissions failed, couple of other mot bits ..

Pierburg 2E3 - same carb as mine. I took it off the manifold and cleaned it thoroughly on the outside with petrol and a paintbrush over a bucket before taking the top section away from the lower piece to avoid washing any crud from the outside into the smallest holes inside. Flushed out all channels...

Re: hc emissions failed, couple of other mot bits ..

Mine has just failed on emissions too - but more spectacularly than yours! Some recommendations from the garage - among other things - were to clean out the crankcase breather, check spark plug gaps and change oil before returning it to the testing station. I've also chucked a load of Redex in, for ...

Re: WATER IN MY BATTERY BOX

I've got the same problem! Mine's RHD though. Just found a puddle in the battery tray this evening. Pretty sure it isn't leaking electrolyte as it's only been installed for 9 months but battery is too flat to turn it over (it's been sat for 3 weeks and does suffer a slow drain). It has been chucking...

Re: Loss of Power

She revs up ok in neutral but when trying to drive the engines struggles and comes close to stalling. This is one of the many symptoms I've been suffering from with my 1.9DG. I can't make any comment on the electrics, but the situation has improved on my van following advice re fuel starvation issu...

Re: Rotor Arm Removal

Just wanted to thank everyone again for their input on this. Managed to get the rotor arm off in the end - took a hacksaw to it as suggested by toomanytoys then mole grips and a good pull eventually did it, though it was in pieces by the end. No anti flash over seal on the dizzy so I covered the ope...

Re: Rotor Arm Removal

Thanks for the updates, guys. I'm away for a few days so won't be back onto it until Sunday but will let you know how it goes with the tips you've provided. I must admit to not being too confident about the carb work, but am more than willing to have a go. As for dugcati's advice: Whilst your playin...

Re: Rotor Arm Removal / Cutting out

Thanks for the reply, Mark: Sounds a bit like fuel starvation. As a first port of call, check the fuel filter just outside the rear of the fuel tank on the drivers side I have just replaced that filter, but the van must have been running for half an hour in total since it was done, so I guessed (hop...

Re: Rotor Arm Removal / Cutting Out

Thanks again for your input, everyone. I still couldn't remove the rotor arm last night - even got a mate over to try in case I was being stupid / weak. It seems stuck fast, and looks like it's been on there a long time. I settled with cleaning up the metal edge and gave the carb a bit of a spray wi...

Rotor Arm Removal

Hi All, I have a 1.9DG 1986 Caravelle, which has been suffering from cutting out at junctions and when easing off the throttle and difficulty idling without choke. Having replaced the HT leads, plugs and fuel filter and with persisting problems I'm moving onto replacing the distributor cap and rotor...
