Recommend Grant at Beetlelink http://www.beetlelink.co.uk/index.html out Farnham way but a really slick setup so worth the trundle out there Closer to home is Ian & Ron at Mayflower http://www.mayflowermgvw.co.uk/vw.htm They really know their stuff but work best face to face. It's only a few mil...

German Exhaust Reqs for Driving in Cities
Just heard from my mate in Weinheim & he reckons Bricks in Germany now need a cleaner exhaust to allow them to drive in cities. In his words: "Mmh, not so well I have to say. I just learned that there are new exhaust systems for t3s so I will be able to get a green sticker for my vw. So I c...

Re: Couple of crackers in south Dorset / Devon
Also there's a fantastic pub, bay & good camping at Seatown. In fact that's all there is so don't know where they got the town bit from... Turn down a single lane track at Chideock on A35. The pub does great food, though can be a bit pricey but really tasty, with a garden on a crumbling cliff fa...

Just over in Santiago now having got the ferry on Sunday from Plymouth to Santander. Lovely smooth crossing & a cheesey disco with Hells Angels dancing to Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This to boot Can recommend a great relaxed camp site in Gijon called Gijon Camping right on the coast & this one...

Re: Waterproof/insulating wrap for raised roof?
Spot on Bean! Thanks :ok I'll give him our measurements just in case they're radically different. Looked on eBay a few times but just wasn't putting in the right keywords. Yep that was us at CamperJam which sadly was the last time we had a chance to go out. That all changes this weekend though as we...

Waterproof/insulating wrap for raised roof?
Hello... Going over to France v soon but our pop-up roof canvas is full of holes and we're looking for some sort of waterproof/insulating wrap to put round it (one day we'll replace it but it will have to wait for the moment!). I guess I could cut some foil wrap to size but was wondering if anyone h...

Plans or photos wanted for Danbury Autoroof
Hi All, I'm trying to get plans or pictures of a working Danbury pop top setup. Ideally the electric autoroof but anything will help! Currently it's all a bit sad looking & a previous owner has bodged the alloy frame so they could fit 2 gas struts either end. Probably worked once but they've los...

Thanks for the advice.
Just got it up on axle stands by mounting drivers wheels on curb which with the road camber gives a level van. Now for a spot of well earned lunch

Re: 1981 CU Engine Swap Advice - Spectator Seats Available
Thanks TMT you've saved me a few quid & a lot of frustration by the sounds of it.
I'll see if I can hire a decent jack rather than the lil' draper one I have now. It's done me OK thus far but it's only had to cope with 60s English cars which were much lighter even before the tin worm

1981 CU Engine Swap Advice - Spectator Seats Available
OK I am going to swap this engine over for another this weekend so if anyone has any advice they can share or would just like to pop by & learn with me then I'm all ears/eyes/cups of tea. I'm in Camberwell, South London & think I'm going to hire an engine hoist/crane to take it out of the to...

Re: Any Advice On Changing a 2L CU Engine?
Taken off rocker cover & the gasket had a huge kink in it so didn't mate with all the surfaces. Will get a new gasket & give it a go.

Re: Any Advice On Changing a 2L CU Engine?
OK I'll get under there replace the gasket & give it a good clean & let you know.
Thanks for your prompt replies. If this works out I'll have a spare CU engine for sale as I've gotta admit I've already bought another engine which now feels a tad hasty

Re: Any Advice On Changing a 2L CU Engine?
Jason,
Well it's got a good splattering all underneath but it's most obvious under the NS cylinder head & over exhaust box.
It still goes but it does drink oil, perhaps a litre for 30 miles, more thirsty when around town or in traffic.
Pepperami,
Thanks but no thanks. It's gonna stay VW

Any Advice On Changing a 2L CU Engine?
I've just bought my first wedge & whilst there's a long list of stuff to do I'm going to swap over the engine first as it's haemorrhaging oil all over the NS rear shock.
Can anyone help with any handy hints, tips, advice or beneficial upgrades before I go wading in?
