Hello,
Is it a difficult/time consuming job to remove a 5-speed gear stick? I've never delved into the reams of the gears so I'm not sure what to expect when I attempt to remove it tomorrow (It's a 1989 Diesel).
Any hints/tips would be much appreciated.
Cheers

So does that mean the stick is the same, but not the joining mechanism? All I'm looking to replace is the stick.

Ah OK - Thanks.
I'll try and get the original one welded then, as I'm finding it impossible to find a 5 speed stick.

Any difference between 4 or 5 speed gear stick?
Hello,
Is there any difference between a 4 speed or 5 speed gear stick? It's for a 1.7TD 1989 camper whose gear stick snapped.
I've found a 4 speed shifter for sale but don't want to find out it's a different length to the 5 speed version.
Cheers!
Sean

Fitting New Wheel Bearings
Hello!
Just had an M.O.T and returned with an advisory for the rear near-side wheel bearings. Was curious how much of a job this is to do one's self? The wheel bearings are about £35 but the garage wanted about £85 for labor so thought I'd see if I can save myself a few pounds.

Re: The sound of a new alternator?
All been checked out and apparently it's running fine. Think I would be worried (Yes) Have you checked that the belt runs inline with all the pulleys, Could be this which is giving the thumping sound. as the belt would be twanging. If you didnt fit it then take it back to who ever did fit it. (I've ...

The sound of a new alternator?
Hello, I've had a new alternator & belt fitted to my 1989 1.7TD several days ago. When I run the engine is makes a different sound to before, so I was wondering whether it is simply the sound of a new alternator spinning. The sound is like a mild thumping. I've checked to make sure the coolant p...

Gear Stick Adjustment
Hello,
The gear stick on my '89 1.7TD 5 Speed gear box is annoyingly close to the radio, so was wondering if it's possible to adjust the position of the gear box to lean the stick further back?
Thanks!

Re: rear wheel bearing???-squeeky noise
My rear near-side wheel has begun doing the same grinding noise at a certain part of the rotation - was just curious what the outcome of this thread was?
Was it fixed by a simple re-grease

Ok, thanks for the ideas. I think I'm going to try and adapt a garden rain water collector with some extra taps and see how I get on

Re: Cooking Oil - 1.7TD
Excellent! Thanks for a spiffing reply.
Regarding WVO - how do you go about filtering it? Does it need to be finely filtered or just through a loose mesh? It sounds like a pretty messy job!
Thanks!

Cooking Oil - 1.7TD
Hi Chaps, Had an AA man yesterday tell me to look into running my '89 1.7TD on 50/50 (cooking oil/diesel); so I've read all I can find on here about it and was hoping to get three things clarified - 1. Which oil exactly is meant by 'cooking' oil? (Rapeseed, vegetable oil, etc.?) 2. If I'm running on...
