Re: M6 Toll - avoid!
1.3m high above the front wheels. Which isn't very high at all. It's measured automatically.

M6 Toll - avoid!
Drove up to Lichfield last week. Heavy traffic, so thought I'd use the M6 Toll. Mistake. Unlike French autoroutes, the money-grabbing gits who run the M6 charged me the same as a 9-axle HGV. £10.60 for three bloody junctions. And no "assistance" button, no-one on the tollbooth, no phone, n...

Komet roof rack
The Komet hightop has a neat little roofrack area at the back - an area about 4'x2'6" - with 3 chrome rails. there's even a ladder on the back of the van to get up to it. But what's it for? It's too small and shallow to put anything big up there. You wouldn't want something small and heavy - it...

Re: 1.9 watercooled - clanking!
I checked the oil level - just over MIN. So I bunged in a litre of 15W40 and cruised round the block for five minutes. Clanking gone! Spoke to a mate who knows more about engines than me (buggerall) who says it was probably a tappet or valve spring. I'll have to make sure I keep the oil well topped ...

Re: 1.9 watercooled - clanking!
Thanks, Ian. I use it every couple of weeks, and I drove it for about 10 minutes yesterday. Maybe I'll take it for a bit longer spin this evening & see if that does the trick.
Update: nipped home at lunch and drove around for half an hour. No improvement. D'oh! Maybe a tappet or valve??

1.9 watercooled - clanking!
I've had my 1989 Komet for about a year. I bought it with 105,000 on the clock and have added about another 5,000. The 1.9 petrol engine has always run smoothly. Until yesterday when I took it out for a spin. There's an ominous clanking noise from somewhere in the engine. Sounds like someone's tappi...

200 miles / 40 litres = 22.7 mpg.
Same as mine, Adam!

Re: Lekky for Dummies
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I think I understand now. I don't have a ZIG unit or any other sort of startrekky control panel, worse luck. I must have some sort of split charge relay, coz the leisure battery hasn't gone flat in 9 months & I haven't charged it separately. Interesting to hear ...

Lekky for Dummies
Hi all. This will seem like a stupid question to the techies on this forum, but how does my leisure battery charge up? I've a 1989 Komet. There's no fancy switch box or anything inside. I guess the internal lights and 12V sockets work from the leisure battery. The fridge, too (when the rocker switch...

Re: 1.9 Petrol - what octane?
Thank you all for your reassurances. I had googled the problem but got bogged down in talk of retarding the ignition and other esoteric subjects. Great forum, ain't it?

1.9 Petrol - what octane?
I'm off to France in the summer with my 1989 Komet (1915cc water cooled petrol). Can I get away with the normal 95 octane they sell over there, or will I need the 98 octane "super"?

1.9 Petrol - is 22.5mpg reasonable?
Haven't had the van long. It's a 1989 hightop. This weekend I drove from Taunton to Swanage and back. 155 miles total, 4 hours journey time. Mostly single track A-roads with a fair few hills, villages etc. Never went over 60mph. Average speed less than 40. Petrol consumption: 22.5mpg. Apart from lea...

Easwell, Twitchen, Woolacombe Bay and Golden Coast are all owned by the same mega company who run the Woolacombe Bay Hotel. Very dear - about £45 per night in high season for a tent, 2 adults and a kid. Rip-off, I know, but there are plenty of folks around willing to pay it. (Would they send me thei...
