Re: electric shock!! SORTED bad wiring

I am aware of the 5. My fingers typed the wrong letters, thank you for correcting me :) In my world (live events) for smaller events that have traditionally been supplied by the long extension lead is not uncommon to create a IT supply by use of a local isolation transformer and earth spike. TT is a...

Re: electric shock!! SORTED bad wiring

I realise you're now sorted, but for others coming to this thread a fault such as this might have been a fault with the campsite. If the supply system was badly designed or installed or has been bodged together then the earth that your van is stood on can be at a different voltage to the earth suppl...

Re: inverters

Alternatively I believe straighteners that run off small gas cartridges are available, some of the girls from my church had them when we went away as a church.h

Sticking choke

Hey all, Fixing/servicing mothers van for her summer hols and having trouble getting it to start reliably. Narrowed this down to the choke sticking on, thus flooding the van. If the van is started with the choke manually held off it starts fine everytime. Engine is a 1600CT with a Solex 34 carb. Giv...

Re: tricklec harging your battery while laid up

A warning about cheap solar chargers. DON'T leave them on the dash whilst driving, the hot air outlet melted the rear of one we had and very nearly shorted the cig-lighter out. I also noticed some sunlight related damage that I think would have eventually lead to the same problem. Other than that th...

Re: Hookup cable

1664, while you are in theory correct, in practice nearly all 110V cable is rated for 240V. I suppose there's no economy in making 110V cable when the standard processes more than cover it.

I agree with the above, buy some extra connectors and make your long thick cable into two shorter thick cables.

Re: Hookup cable

A cable is a cable, but a 110V connector won't go into a 230V one for obvious reasons...

Plenty of cheap and cheerful 16A 230V cables can be found online.

Re: ICE - iPod question

Glad to have been of help. We found the control unit sits quite well behind the dash, but thats on an older van with a simple dash.

Have fun with it!

Re: ICE - iPod question

Tis a bit more than a dock, but have a look at the 'drive and play' by harman kardon. Can be found on amazon for around £40. Put your ipod in the glove box and it gives you a screen and a joystick (separate) that you can mount somewhere that you can easily see and get to whilst driving. It also char...

Re: on-site power limits

Erm power is power...

If you up the voltage you down the current (amps), but the power remains the same.

Re: on-site power limits

Not for straight resistive loads it doesn't!

Might do on things like laptop power supplies that use switch mode power supplies, but anything else will just work with less heat/light/efficiency etc.

Go jaks would do the trick. A decent tool hire company should have them or know where to get them.

Indeed and be very careful with colours. Black can be live or neutral, as can blue. All depends when it was wired and by whom.

I can, and you can. But I felt it was worth pointing out.
