Noooooo......thats the brake/clutch reservoir (brake/clutch fluid) .you dont want to be putting gear oil in there.

Quite poss. true. But since you cant get any new we need to do what we can to over come the problem.

And use some new jubilee clips (instead of those horrible VW clips).

Also try on Fiat Punto's at scrappers.
You will have to cut to suit (both ends),had one on my van about year & half and still ok.
