Re: Claustrophobia

There being only two of us the first thing we did when refurbihing our van was to rip out tthe upstairs bed and make the over cab area into a crockery etc cupboard and the rear over R&R bed into a mainly bedding etc store. Makes for high speed touring stops especially if the bed is folded up mad...

Re: Bistable idle speed on my WBX - update

I finally completed the “upgrade” on my spare but worn WBX throttle body and road tested it this morning with very successful results. When I get time - and should any interest be expressed, I may set out a more detailed schedule of what it involved. (Not a job for the ill equipped or faint hearted...

Re: Bistable idle speed on my WBX

Can't see why I have no knowledge at all regarding that MacGyver character - must have wizzed completely over my head. Had to Google him to see what was meant. Got to admit somewhat proudly that one of my KPI's is the ability to solve engineering problems in a ruthless back to basics kind of way oft...

Re: Bistable idle speed on my WBX

I am currently running with the factory set throttle stop backed off but unhappy as it is a bodge and questionable in the long term. So far the idle returns reliably to the set RPM. I believe that a TB with zero wear wil be rare as rocking horse poo and just for the shear hell of it have devised a B...

Idle controller box (Ahead of D/S rear light cluster)

I have locate one to buy but the relevent number is on the one I have is 251 907 393C whereas the one for sale has a D in place of the C.
I am lead to believe that there are two models which are not interchangeable and wonder if it is the letter at the end which differentiates them?

Iv'e been festering on the ide of a home brew electric clutch servo. So where is all that cabootle situated - ob...

Re: 8mm ID lip seals

what are the three dimesion, id od thickness post a pick of the original if possible a quad lip seal may be available Sorry haven't taken them out yet but hoping they are 6mm deep or thereabouts as I have what many would see as a harebrained scheme which could virtually eliminate any machining work...

Re: Seized/ Snapped studs.

Yes hows it going?  By the way I spotted a few places where bolts have been used - presumably a well intended move at the time but setting up a drilling out operation if - as is likely, the the head snaps off. Using studs and nuts is wiser in my opinion as nuts can be split, ground away or in some p...

Re: OE PAS v EPS

I had the Slaughterhouse EPS installed recently and find manoeuvring at low speed a joy now - better than my Focus.  Feels slightly different at fast cruising speed but I can't quite put my finger on it - no pun intended :) . Good price, same day installation and excellent service. Incidentally my i...

Bistable idle speed on my WBX

This random two speed idle RPM comes back to irritate me every now and again and I usually get over it for a while by several days of fiddling with springs etc, and compromising in some way. Anyway having recently acquired what I perceived to be a better throttle body I went through the set up proc...

Re: Carb additive

Well in the good old days we would get a penny shot of Redex at every fill up and for a quick decoke - particularly on two strokes, we used to pour an egg cup full of Redex down the carb with the engine running and the throtle at full bore to clear jammed rings and carbon in the ports. The resulting...

Re: Embaressing admission

The plastic cover is only fitted to left hand drive models, there is more space that side. For access to the right side take the indicator lamp out to make things easier. Strange that as Bentleys  and if I remember right Haynes, shows the cover in manual and Auto plus diezel illustrations with no m...

Embaressing admission

My underfloor throttle linkage seems to be without that neat little "codpiece" cover and feels - I can't work out how to access it visually, very vulnerable to the elements. Unless it was a later addition I have to assume a PO left it off - probably due to its poor accessibility.  Throttle...
