Re: Solex RHS carb flooding
Thanks for both of your help. I took the top half of the carb off and checked the operation of the needle value by blowing through. I also removed the float and checked that. Put it back together and no more flooding (yet!), so I guess there could have been something blocking the valve slightly or i...

Solex RHS carb flooding
Hi All, I recently noticed a petrol leak from the engine bay of my 2ltr a/c camper with stock twin Solex PDSIT 34. I thought it was the fuel hoses, so replaced those and also re-glued the brass fuel hose fitting into the right hand carb that's previously popped out. I couldn't see any leaks after th...

Re: Aircooled Camper poor starting in cold weather
Thanks both for your comments. I'll have a look at choke adjustment. Idle revs are ok when it's going. I'm sort of expecting it to run like my 5 year old other car because It's got reconned engine and carbs and I'm sure that 30 years ago people would expect the van to run without problems. If it's a...

Aircooled Camper poor starting in cold weather
Hi All, I've had a quick look but could't see anything relevant on the forum. Had the same problerms last year, and since had a new engine and refubed carbs (stock Solex's) by elite in Basildon. Basically in colder weather the van fails to idle without me feathering the throttle and having to clear ...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
Thanks for the replies. I'm going to continue with 80 as I'm getting on with it and I've seen some areas where the old paint has flaked off, so I'm guess the previous painter didn't key the paint very well so trying to get rid of their paint. It looks so much better now the orange peel finish has go...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
Hi guys, I've had a search of this topic and a read on the wiki but couldn't find the anser I was looking for. I am starting to use this method to paint my van but I'm a bit of a novice so excuse my ignorance. I am doing the prep work at the moment and everyone says its the one thing to focus on but...

Re: Noooooooooooooooooooooo do I need a new engine?
I have had a call from Mick today and it does need a new engine. He said it has overheated a couple of times some of the compressions were low and all over the place, the dizzy is knackered and was advanced by 15 degrees (i think) and air leaks everywhere. Oh well its only money... Thanks for recomm...

Re: Noooooooooooooooooooooo do I need a new engine?
Hi Steve,
They have a sticker on the rocker cover saying Volkspares hydraulic tappets. They were gapped to 0.006" (six thousanths of an inch) when cold. From the previous post I think it was said that they should have been set as per hydraulic?
Cheers,
Will

Noooooooooooooooooooooo do I need a new engine?
Hi again, I've recently been posting about some issues I've been having with poor running, starting and fuel consumption here https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=45439" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I have a 1982 Danbury hightop 2.0ltr CU with what looks t...

Re: T25 Camper Buying Advice
Hi Andy, From what I've seen (I'm fairly new to this as well) the T25s price usually depends on the conversion company as Ian has said and obviously condition etc. Its now the time to buy as its the winter so may be worth looking around. Sounds reasonable with gear though. Camping extras can be expe...

Re: hydraulic tappets ceased?
Do you know for certain that your engine has hydraulic lifters? don't forget many of these vans now have a bit of chequered history! I have what appears to be a volkspares engine that has hydraulic tappets (well the stickers on the rocker cover say they are!). I've heard that these arn't the best o...

Re: hydraulic tappets ceased?
Thanks for the reply, Sorry to be ignorant but how do I tell if they are not moving or dead? After my 90 mile run yesturday the tappets sounded like a machine gun. I will ring the meachanic to ask how far he turned then out but he used a feeler guage to put the gap in; it could be that the gap was b...

hydraulic tappets ceased?
Hi Guys, I've been having a reccomended mechanic look over my van due to power loss and poor performance. So far I have had carbs balanced and throttle cable tightened, that has helped a lot but still not near what performance I had before I started having these issues. Firstly I have a 1982 Aircool...

Re: cab roof liner
I've just completly removed the cab lining if you want any advice... It isn't too bad once you get into it. If I'm picturing your cupboard right then it will be in your high top at head hight as you stand up in the center of the van. There was some wired into my van where the wires ran down the side...
