Re: Idle speed adjustment

On the pierburg 2e3 carb it's clockwise to increase idle and anti-clockwise to decrease it.

Re: Engine problems - help please.

How will I know it's actually in the follower? Will it 'click' in or is it an interference fit? It has been a year since I last changed the fuel filter so I'll give that a look. And the timing isn't that difficult to do, just follow the Haynes manual for your engine and see if you can borrow a timin...

Engine problems - help please.

My van has recently been giving me some hassle again at the worst possible time (when it's time to head down to Le Mans, get the MOT done and move all my stuff down from uni) :x It started with it loosing power and refusing to idle a couple of weeks ago but that was fixed by turning in the idle scre...

Re: How the smeg do I find TDC?

This may seem silly but because these are flat 4s surely sticking a pen, guage or whatever into the spark plug hole won't be that accurate. I say this cause the piston moves laterally so it would just jiggle whatever is down there all over the place. Compared to say an inline 4 where the object woul...

The only problem with that is I'd have to borrow the ICU for about a month or at least a couple of weeks as the problem only occurs. It will probably be easier to get one for about £30 from somewhere.

I will be back at uni in Hatfield though from Oct onwards.

I don't think it's the tacho wire, because I know the van wouldn't start even with that wire disconnected.

Spark problems

I have an '85/'86 1.9 DG WBX with a peirburg carb. What's been happening is the van will sometimes refuse to start. It turns over fine but the plugs aren't getting any juice. This has happened a few times now and I even had a case of it dieing along the motorway. Scary when it's dark and you're alon...

Fuel filter

So I got this fuel filter off JK and as I'm about to intall it i notice my previous filter is of the small transparent type. Will I have problems with this new chunky filter? Is it for a different engine model? I have a 1.9 watercooled carb engine if that helps.

How to jet a Pierburg?

Is there a website that gives me an idea of how to do it, or can anyone tell me how it's done?

Also where can I get the gasket that goes between the carb and the inlet manifold. Can't seem to find it on Brickwerks or JK.

Thanks

I just ordered some fuel hoses off JK but I got the 7mm dia. ones as that's the dimensions the wiki gives. Also got a new fuel filter so those will be changed aswell. I found a refurbed carb off ebay for £140 inc shipping and decided to get it because it was within my budget and it doesn't hurt to h...

If it becomes a regular problem then wouldn't a new carb be easier than refurbishing the old carb regularly? I was planning on replacing the fuel lines as I've read that worn out lines can lead to very bad things.

Which brings me to another question which dia. hose do I need, 5mm or 7mm?

Yeah I just got the van back from the garage and it's a water cooled engine with a Pierburg carb. The guy is definite that a new carb is needed and has been searching everywhere for one. I doubt he'd go through all the trouble if he wasn't at least 99% sure that's the problem. I also contacted a VW ...
