Re: Vacuum hose

I should really have put vacuum box hose, although funnily enough I also have to find some better proper vaccum hose since the stuff I got from Wilco a few months back has started to perish :x

Re: Vacuum hose

Cheers for that, irishkeet. I'll stop pondering about that and get plugging air leaks on the inlet manifold...

Vacuum hose

Hi all, the vacuum unit at the back of the air filter box seems like it should have a hose connected to the large opening on its right (for temperature regulation if I'm not mistaken). This has never been fitted to mine and some pictures of other CU engines on the wiki don't seem to have one either....

Yeah, £2 from the scrappy. Found a 99 in a '93 Golf.

Re: Other completed jobs

Yeah, we were advised to call a bloke out to do the windows rather than have a go ourselves but I'm still considering it.

Our roof has a single catch inside at the front and a lever at the rear which locks it into place when down. Must be slightly different models.

Re: Other completed jobs

Very nice! Did you find the tinting easy enough to do yourself? Also, are those catches on the outside of the roof standard, as mine doesn't have them?

Re: anyone near hinckley

Is the engine perhaps slowly flooding? If you've had the carb off check that it's bolted on tightly and there are no air leaks.

I'm originally from Barwell and pop back fairly regularly to see my parents, but not this weekend I'm afraid.

Re: sliding door removal

I've a feeling the welding won't be quite as easy, but good luck anyway!

Re: sliding door removal

Pop the cover off that goes over the guide rail (might be screwed on).
Slide the door open and release the hinge guide from the rail.
Pull the door outwards from the rear and lift it up off the rail.
Slide the lower arm out of its guide.

It's quite a bit easier with an assistant!

Re: Aircooled 4-5 speed conversion

I've always held it that the dots are the recommended change points. Does anyone know which speedo module was supplied for 2.0l a/c vans? I have an 820, but it was originally a 1.6 - wondering if the dots are at different places. Mine are at 14, 26 and 42 mph.

I had similar problems - turned over but wouldn't start. Turned out to be a faulty TCI unit.

Mine went in the same place, though not quite as bad! Got it plated for the last MOT.

Re: Carb Troubles

I had this with my Solex carbs. A new needle valve fixed it, but I took the opportunity to do a rebuild at the same time - made a world of difference!

Re: re-fitting heat exchanger pods

New cables are easy enough to fit so long as you spray a bit of WD40 down the plastic sheaths first and get them the right way around! Although the levers on the new pods that were installed for me didn't seem to fit the ends of the cable (the ends were rotated through 90°) so I had to rig up a way ...

Re: Vacumn pipe missing

Assuming you have a RHD van and you're talking about the right-hand carb, don't worry. Only the left-hand should have a vacuum hose connected to the dizzy.
