Just had a call from Sarah she has broken down after leaving the campsite , has called recovery .
Ok symptoms .loud bang followed by loss of drive ,engine revving ,gears engaging , drive shaft ?

Thanks mate , and the shiny new starter did the trick . Not too bad to change bush was a bit of a bugger easy out snapped it in half which I got out then I went to use the 12mm tap method which shattered the bush , I used an extendable mirror with torch and a cotton bud dipped in oil to retrieve the...

Morning Tony have tried the hammer trick , still not starting just been out and skinned my knuckles , gonna go to gsf now and get a new starter , will just have a look at your link to california thread

Hi Em yeh solenoid should make a click , I will go to gsf and get a starter and solenoid tomorrow if that doesn't cure it I'll have spares and something more to go on :D , I don't mind things going wrong I get to fix them and learn about the van few things to check for in the Wiki , will get ti sort...

problem starting
Hey guys , got home from work tonight pulled up beside the garage to offload stuff then she wouldnt start ,I have ignition lights , The relay box in the engine bay is clicking , the earth wire is good , the leads to the solenoid looked good but I took them off and cleaned them up again still no go ....

As above , I think it will corrode faster than you think and the weld would fracture. I remember changing 2 of my exhaust clamps 2 years ago and they had totally disintegrated where as other clamps changed at the same time are good as new .

.Its the metal on metal that will cause corrosion. I got an advisory on my MOT a couple of months ago , all my exhaust clamps had virtually disintegrated , tester said it was because they were steel clamps on a stainless exhaust , I didn;t even know it was stainless :oops: thought it looked cleaner...

Crawl under the back of the van drivers side where the linkage connects to a spindle that goes into the gearbox the spindle is grooved and the linkage has teeth cut into it , linkage side could be worn and slipped

If all linkages are ok and bushes not worn and you want less play try one of these short shift kit they are good

After my van failed on Co emissions I changed all filters plugs and leads cleaned carbs and the little Carb filter. Hiya , I'm guessing that something is causing the motor to stick , when I first did mine last year I stripped the motor down dipped the bearings in Gunk for the night , cleaned all the bushes . Before I took it apart it seemed to spin ok on the bench , when I'd cleaned it up the fan had lateral move...
