Re: what's this container?
"I'll loose sleep tonight if Idon't find out what it's for. I've only had the van(my first) for 4 weeks but why ahve I become obsessed with it already? :D Can anyone help?" The only solution we've found to losing sleep about our van is to lose some sleep while in it! Either that or sell it...

Re: dodgy gearchange, number--- (engine mounts)
The Short-shift/ quickshift kit made no difference to my gearshiftings after I had replaced all the bushes etc upfront with a new kit. If your gearchanges feel as if your stirring soup and neutral is sloppy, change the bushes/springs etc. Cost me about £25 for the quickshift/ shortshift (plate with ...

Re: A couple of rear brake questions
"guess what Im doing this Saturday" errrmmm.... dodging the intermittent downpours while cursing the God of wheelhubs for causing you to sprain your ankle while jumping up and down on a scaffold pole which you were using to undo your hubnut because curiosity got the better of you and you d...

Re: windscreen wipers
Don't s'pose you've tried using Oxidised Ethanol in alcohol on your wipers before binning them have you? It's a miracle treatment for van rubber. It's TOTALLY FREE - well, all it would cost you is a little pride when you go to collect it or simply pay a small child to do it for you. http://encyclope...

Re: A couple of rear brake questions
If you like a bit of occasional constructive tinkering; if you do take the back plates off (I don't think you need to yet but if you ever do) maybe consider coating them with paint to protect them. Probably best to do this with new plates and i've never done it myself though I would if I ever replac...

Re: A couple of rear brake questions
Hello, The brake pads can wear down to the little rivets which hold them onto the shoes - at which point they wreak havoc with the drums and it all gets very expensive. If anything, they'll need checking (another one of those checks I do every so often) and adjusting to ensure they continue to wear ...

Re: Two Buses in Bridges Breakers
Just gave them a call. "I dunno mate, you'll have to come down and have a look. I ain't seen one of them in ages." I wasn't convinced the bloke knew what he was talking about, so I called them again and spoke to someone else. "I fink we've got a couple of them in the yard somewhere.&q...

Flibbertigibbet, Shabitat used to sell Biodiesel made and supplied by Green Futures in Shoreham (which is where i'm considering getting an Elsbett bio conversion done). Shabitat couldn't guarantee a constant quantity ie they kept running out, so they stopped supplying it to customers some time ago. ...

Thanks Kev. Didn't find it when I searched for discussions of 'alternatives'. Guess they're trading on a vague notion of HFC's? 'scuse me Ian Hulley?!! Something we need to discuss? Seems to be that the 'endless shyte' has already been posted and discussed before by others, as have a great many othe...

Bio Diesel in Brighton £1.25/l
£1.25/l is an incentive to convert an engine and run it on bio?!? Gills of Brighton think so. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://edinburgh.gumtree.com/posting_images/28/24870228__1213092943__1__1-0c1e6e285aa91841b871cdfa5f34f0de.__big__.jpg&imgrefurl=http://edinburgh.gumtree.com/edinb...

Vehicles are a license to print money for most councils. I'm just waiting for a letter from Brighton council penpushers saying something litigious about me working on my van. My van, by their reckoning, is too high to be parked on the street in one of their standard width bays. When I owned an ambul...
