I think now its cos its a new bearing...when i put the old half in it doesnt rock!
BTW whats "nipped the main bearing"?

Hi, all been a while now back on it again. Putting engine together..just put the crankshaft in half the engine case. When i put the other half of the centre bearing in, it rocks just a tiny bit. Thanks guys!Ive weighed them and supposedly you cant have more that 10 g between the heaviest and ligtest so thats ok. But now Im off to get that crankshaft.

I had a similar problem...it was fuel leaking past the cut off valve in the carb. When the engine cuts out pull the air filter clear of the carbs, check if there alot of white smoke/vapour coming out of the carb.

Just about to reasemble my engine (1.6 CT), but my connecting rods have been mixed up! I know that the each half has numbers and must match up...891 412 862 359. and there is a notch designating the top. But which cylinder goes with with rod? I.e 891 for cylinder 1. Dugati, whats the point of continuing? FFS it took VW less than 2 years to realize this engine is worthless. Its taken me and you 28 Years to do the same. It wasnt supposed to be like this

The expert at VW heritage, says the profle of the cam is different if you have hydraulic lifters. I really hope hes wrong.
