Re: Big favour please - wiring diagram :)

OK, got the Haynes on my lap. Bear in mind that the diagram is not specific to any year and fuse type changed around '86 was it? 1. On my diagram the indicator circuit is supplied through fuse S19 (10amp) and only with ignition ON. 2. The supply then goes from the fuse to pin 15 on the HAZARD switch...

Re: Caravelle cutting out. Distributor/Hall sender?

Will the timing need resetting? If so, i assume this is a simple task for any half decent mechanic. My nearest mechanic here on Gran Canaria is only half decent. Alan, If your engine is a 2.1 DJ the timing depends on the grade of fuel you use. Standard timing is 10 degrees BTDC with vacuum disconne...

Re: Water warning light

Replaced the wire and guess what.......still flashes!!!! Also tried hitting the dash several times!!

Yes........... but the point is.......... does it flash constantly with the connector disconnected from the tank sender after the ignition has been switched off, and then back on again.

Re: Water warning light

I pulled the wire off the sender on the tank and it was still flashing!! Leave the sender plug disconnected from the sender on the tank, switch off the ignition, and then switch it back on. This should reset the system, and the LED should flash for a few seconds and then stop, (its usual self check...

Re: "kangarooing" 2.1DJ

One or two things you may (or may not) care to try. They are taken from Haynes manual 3344 'Engine Management and Fuel Injection Systems' The systems covered tend to be more modern than our digijet (Bosch Jetronic L derived I believe), but may be relevant. 1. Checking for spark from HT lead of coil ...

Re: urgent - handbrake stuck

Hi janieh, Had this happen to my Bay window van when it had been stood a long time in my garage when I was working overseas. Think it is caused by the brake shoes remaining in contact with the drums. I had got a tow back out of the garage, handbrake off of course. The shoes then released with a thud...

Re: Testing vacuum advance unit.

Cheers bigherb, I am trying to read from three different Haynes manuals, and really do not want to go disconnecting circuits on my own DJ and sticking a multimeter across various terminals to check readings. You obviously have had hands on experience with the beasty, so much easier to advise in that...

Re: Testing vacuum advance unit.

Alan, I have a couple of manuals which cover electronic / fuel injection systems, as it is rather new technology to me, (an old duffer). According to what I have read, the Hall sender is a silicon chip through which is passed a small current from one edge to the opposite edge. When a magnetic field ...

Re: nipples help me peeps

Buy some new nipples, (you are going to need them anyway), then you can measure the thread diameter and pitch. This will tell you what tap you will need, and as for a drill size, should be just a tad smaller than the root diameter of the male thread of the nipple I would have thought. (i.e a bit sma...

Re: Testing vacuum advance unit.

Alan, Before I spent £85, (leave alone 170 Euros), on anything I would want to follow 'bigherbs' advice and check out the rest of the ignition system, (minus the Hall sender). see below.......... Re: No Spark (The saga continues!) by bigherb » Wed Sep 09, 2009 9:01 pm The hall sender is simple to ch...

Re: Testing vacuum advance unit.

chano said There is still oil coming out of the unit from the connector nearest the cab when i move the pullrod arm on the vacuum unit. Is this normal? I would say, 'not normal' would expect there to be only air in the vacuum unit, but if it has been missing a hose from the cab side, then it has bee...

Re: Testing vacuum advance unit.

Thanks. Where exactly does the missing hose attach? I assume when you say check to see if the throttle body has been plugged, it attaches there if it hasn't been plugged. Alan Alan, Just had a look at mine (1986 2.1DJ), and there is a pipe from the throttle body to the forward (Cab) side of the vac...
