Best replacement body panels
Hi again after a while. Having done engine, replaced roof and other bits, I must face the elephant on the drive. I need to start working my way through some rusty panels and seams before they get away from me. Therefore, who produces the best quality replacement panels for my t25? I’m probably ...

Re: Subaru converters
The guys at Haynes Motor Museum, Somerset did mine 5 years ago. Ask for Bradley. Has never missed a beat since, unlike the crappy original 1.9 water-cooled.

Re: 2.0l MPG?
My 1.9l 4 speeder struggled to top 25mpg but the engine is soo weedy that you end up using the accelerator like an on/off switch. So I did a 2.5l Subaru RJES conversion and now get high 20's. However the conversion cost a fair few grand, so lets not kid ourselves that I'm saving any money. It just s...

Autohomes pop top free to a good home
I've just replaced my Autohomes pop top roof with a GRP item, detailing the fun and games on another thread. This leaves me with the bare old roof, which has had all the accessories removed. It went on ebay but no takers and it is a bit sad, to be honest, with some pin holes in the aluminium and the...

Re: Looking for a good Subaru Engine Installer
I used the Haynes Motor Museum service department when I did mine a few years ago and got all the bits from RJES. They were excellent and it has not missed a beat since. RJES support was also first rate. However they are in Somerset so not particularly local.

Re: Autohomes roof replacement blog
Day 6 - finished Fortunately I picked the hottest day of the year to fix the new roof on. Time to get a bit of a sweat on. The plan was to get the roof to the extended height. Somehow support it there and then attach the struts then the end panels. I used an acroprop at the cab end and I cut some 4'...

Re: Autohomes roof replacement blog
Day 5 This was probably the most challenging bit. I needed to get the front and rear catches in exactly the right position and from there the strut mounts so the roof would sit correctly. I used the front sprung pin as the reference point from which all the measurements were taken. Then I used a cen...

Day 4 The new hinges arrived from these people: http://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/products/hinges/continuous_hinges/137/piano_hinge_steel_brass_plated/822273" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; A 20 minute job to replace the rotten old with the nice shiny new. Also the final co...

Re: Autohomes roof replacement blog
Day 3. Convertible camper Taking the roof off involved unscrewing the piano hinges at the top of the end panels. This then made it pretty unstable however once the struts were then disconnected at the van end the roof lifted off (with the help of a slightly unwilling teenaged son - beige 80's camper...

Re: Autohomes roof replacement blog
Day 2. Today's task was to line it. I wanted to keep it as light as possible so used 4mm beech ply. Unfortunately it is larger than a normal 8 x 4 sheet so I had to buy a 10 x 5 sheet to avoid having a join. This was a heady £55. This was glued and screwed in place using stainless 20mm screws and ha...

Re: Autohomes roof replacement blog
Day 1. Decided that I'd not put a vent in at this stage. If it gets too hot then I'll add but I didn't want to cut a hole in a nice new shiny roof. the first task was to insulate it. I used 20mm Selotex rigid insulation board that can be cut to size. Fortunately the boards come in 120 x 240 size so ...

Autohomes roof replacement blog
Following the failure of my pop up roof on my Autohomes Kamper and this thread: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=137869&p=8039435&hilit=shapes#p8039435" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, it was time to bite the bullet and replace the top as the alu...

Re: Solar powered roof vent for pop-up
Yes I have. The aluminium top has rotted with numerous pin holes and was allowing water into the insulation and rusting the piano hinges in the top. No amount of silicone sealant would fix it! I thought that the only solution was the expensive replacement by Space Roofs or Autovan, which was ridicul...

Solar powered roof vent for pop-up
I have an Autohomes T25 with the pop-up roof and aluminium sides. However the roof now leaks as old age has taken its toll on it so weighs a ton as the insulation is constantly sodden. I'm intending to replace it with a single piece grp top but will need some ventilation in it. I don't want to use t...
