Re: 1.6td won't start after cam belt change

Hi I changed the timing belt on my JX and it would just about start but that was it found that there are 2 positions that the pump locking pin will fit! and guess what it was the other one !! I have now marked the correct one for next time as the pump was 180 degrees out with cam and flywheel .

Re: How did that get in there?

Have you considered buying a new or used LHD lamp dismantling it and fitting your unbroken RHD lens to the good reflector ?

Re: Horns

Hi, there was no horn relay on my 86 westy so all those amps went through the horn contact ring on the steering wheel causing it to burn through. I fitted a relay and a pair of horns after fixing the contact ring. Hard to believe there is no horn relay! I also had a starter problem , the solenoid ta...

Diesel fuel and 2 stroke oil

Hi I had a tip from a mechanic friend that adding 2 stroke mineral oil to the tank would improve performance. I was sceptical but he was insistent so I tried it. The (JX) engine runs quieter and smoother and seems to pull better at low revs giving a more relaxed drive . Just to add to this the white...

Re: Slightly warm air from heater on cold setting

hi is the cable outer clipped in the correct position (its held by a clip under the dash) so when lever is fully "cool" it moves the valve to fully closed. moving mine 10mm cured this on my van

Re: JX wont start when hot.

I had this problem as the glow plugs do not come on when hot then use the cold start lever to advance the pump. This can be symptomatic of a worn pump (i fitted a new pump) or bad timing or even low compression.

Re: 1.6 td - should i feel any boost?

Hi It takes around 0.2 bar that's 3 psi to move thew actuator and 10 psi to fully move it harder than I can blow! to test the actuator remove the pipe , pull arm full back (towards the rear of the van) quite stiff , put finger over the metal pipe connector to seal it, let go of the arm it should not...

Re: What the frig is this?

Hi This is the resistor pack for the water-level sensor. The water tank has level sensors (actually screws with push on connectors) fitted in the side the wires from the pack push on to these and then one wire goes to the "gauge" ie the panel with led,s on the cooker. The idea is that each...

Re: How do I get my rear brake drum off?!

Hi I had this problem, when you get the drum off , before you do anything photograph the layout of the self adjuster and springs as its easy to fit it wrong way round and haynes and other manuals do not show Exactly how it fits! Before you put the drum back on I ran a M8 tap through the 7mm bolt hol...

Re: Turbo question

Hi Consider fitting a CHRA central rotating hub assembly this is the centre part that leaks oil with the shaft and both turbines attached Just (?) use your existing parts and it will be like a new turbo at half the price. I bought mine from a German turbo specialist cost approx 200 euros plus carria...
