My 1.9 DG wbx makes a curious 'puttering' noise while being driven. But only when under load, ie when accellerating or going uphill. I am worried that it might be a valve or piston ring problem. What is the best way to diagnose and rectify?
Cheers

Re: Is this distributor ok?
Got the dizzy from Ignition Car Parts Ltd - super fast delivery. It is an exchange part, so an extra £25 + vat which I will get refunded when the old unit is sent back. Looks identical to the old unit, very slight filing of the corners of the multi plug to get a nice fit. I had a lot of difficulty f...

Saw this on the Ignition Car Parts site http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/PartDetails.aspx?s_pc=PDD7136&s_vid=1781" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm wondering if I should get this and modify the plug from the ICU loom to fit or if I should go for the repair kit from Br...

Is this distributor ok?
The Hall Sender has packed in and I am wondering if I should buy the expensive replacement unit from Brickwerks, the slightly less expensive JK unit or if I should replace the whole distributer - after all it is over 25 years old. It is a 1985 1.9 DG wbx. Saw this on ebay and wondered if it would be...

Re: Engine overhaul
Interested to read that you had the heads skimmed. My understanding is that the important surface is the small circular step just below the 'surface' of the head. So was it the larger flat surface that was skimmed or the narrow edge that mates with the cylinder liners? Good idea to renew the clutch ...

Re: Heater controls
Yes. There is a bulb located to the side of the heater control panel. You need to carefully remove the levers and fan control knob and then the panel (easily cracked btw) and you will see the old bulb. Good luck! I ended up having to stick the panel back on with a blob of sealant because the plastic...

Starter motor cables
I have removed my old defunct starter motor. The electrical connections disintegrated during the removal process and now need to be replaced. So now the ends of the cables from the battery and from the alternator have no ends. Is it possible to join a new battery cable onto the old one or should I r...

Re: Battery
I may have got mixed up. I think the 90A one you mentioned might be the one I got in the end. I do remember it being a tight fit. One thing to be aware of is that the battery cable terminals may be slightly proud of the top of the battery. I had to cover them with something to insulate them from the...

Re: Should I buy this battery?
Had to send the leisure battery back because it was too long to fit the under seat box. Managed to find a 75Ah leisure battery from Advanced Battery Supplies for £65.

Re: Should I buy this battery?
Turns out the leisure battery is too long to fit under thge seat so I'm looking for a slightly smaller one. I'm wondering if it reallt needs to be a proper 'leisure' type - my main concern is maintaining a good enough voltage for the Propex as we got caught out on one cold trip when the van was stat...
