Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
You must flat down between coats as this will give you that final smooth coat. If you roller layer after without flatting you'll simply amplify the orange peel - it will NOT miraculously turn into a glass finish just by piling paint on. The above is from the Wiki which I found in my case to be a bi...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
Flatting-back - how low do you go? If looking under a microscope, the orange peel effect would look like a mountain range. I understand that sanding the last coat for the final finish, you need to come down to the "valleys", but is this necessary for sanding in between coats?. The reason I...

Re: what's the best pop-top?
Cheers for that. Also did a quick internet search and found quite a few pop-top twin sliders as well (no doubt converted)lloyd wrote:There are several hi-top twin sliders in the club.
Therefore, the question remains, is there any difference with regards to rigidity between pop-top and hi-top?

Re: what's the best pop-top?
With regard to the Westy question, my van is a twin-slider - would a westy pop-up fit that? Pop-topping a twin-slider is probably a really bad idea. There will be very little keeping the two halves together and T3's are twisty enough as they are, without a great big hole in the roof too...I don't t...

Re: what's the best pop-top?
Mine is actually badged as a "Bus" and has fittings in the floor for a 2nd row of seats and windows all round, but it has a curved roof so I suppose the Westy is out then. However, did come across this: http://vwelevation.com/2009/09/vw-pop-tops/" onclick="window.open(this.href);...

Re: what's the best pop-top?
Thanks for the replies and the info. I take your point about the high top, but because it will be such an infrequent camper I think the advantages will be out weighed as a daily driver. With regard to the Westy question, my van is a twin-slider - would a westy pop-up fit that?

what's the best pop-top?
Hi, thinking about fitting an elevating roof to my tin top. Main reason is for head space when parked up with kids for picnics etc but they would also like to sleep "upstairs" when we go camping. I've had a look at the different types - Westy, Devon, Viking etc. but what are the pros and c...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
Yep metallic
Would be hard to roller. You could roller a similar blue and then find a metallic to spray the final coat then clear coat but thats a different ball game altogether
Thanks for the reply - any idea what particular blue would approximate?

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
Rollered the van last summer and it was a definite success. Now I've got a bit more confidence, I want to change the colour scheme. Does anyone know what paint code the T25 in the picture is, or rather, if rollering, what paint code/colour would approximate it. Is the one in the picture metallic? Ch...

Re: fitting eberspacher or similar
Is yours sited under the glovebox or elsewhere?Ours blows directly into the passenger area, and this heats the air for the hightop. We already have one in the cab area .... attached to the engine

Re: fitting eberspacher or similar
Looks good fitted under the glove box. Are there any problems with cold spots in the back or does the heat circulate well from front to back?

Re: fitting eberspacher or similar
Thanks again for the info. In my van I've got an rear heater under the back seats (and speakers either side of it) so I was wondering if anyone's fitted a heater under either of the 2 front seats. Good to know if it's possible or not. I've measured up and referred to the dimenstions of the Eber D1LC...

Hi Rob, I don't know the differences between the different models so could you tell me why you recommend the d1lc ?
