Thanks for that Mel..yes , very useful. That pretty much describes what my engine is doing and is something I shall investigate further.
Cheers.

Foot switch for water pump
My Whale foot switch is not working the submersible water pump in my onboard water tank. Does anyone know how the switch should be wired? As far as I can see it just has a red wire and a grey wire leading away from the two terminals which when bridged operate the water pump. Should it have any more ...

Re: Engine wont accelerate
Yeah, just about the last thing i did was to fill the tank up with petrol but it backfired and had little power on the way to the petrol station. After filling up and revving it a bit the problem temporarily cleared and the van drove back home normally , however, next morning is when the current pro...

Re: Engine wont accelerate
Thanks for the info Kev. I'm inclined to agree that the problem still seems to be related to the carb. The transfer jet that you refer to is something I have been concerned about. I am aware that the housing for these come in two sizes (lengths). When my carb returned from being rebuilt the arm that...

Thanks Fritz,
I'll have to get the carb off and have another good look at what I've got.

Cannot get full thottle
Recently had my pierburg 2e3 carburettor rebuilt. When fitted back on to the van (1.9, DG) and connected throttle cable up I noticed that the accelerator pedal would only go down about half way. I have traced the cause of this back to the accelerator pump arm (located on the left side of carb as loo...

Re: Vacuum advance
Hi Aidan, thanks for your reply. Can i just clarify your response? My distributor has a vacuum advance attached to it with a single nozzle, however, there is no pipe linking this to a nozzle on the back of the carb. Is it simply a matter of linking them with a pipe? Or perhaps my distributor could b...

Vacuum advance
Hi everyone..I'm looking for some help with my vacuum advance. I have a 1983 1.9 waterboxer 'DG' engine with a Pierburg SE3 carburettor. I have recently had the carburettor rebuilt and have now put it back on the engine. The carb seems to have 2 vacuum nozzles..one black looking one white looking. H...

Re: We've broke the van - what's wrong?
Hi Chris, I have been reading your posts with much interest. The exact problem that you described happened to our van this summer. Unfortunately for us it happened on day 1 of a 10 day holiday to Annecy in France. Driving away from Calais the van started to misfire on hills and then run out of power...
