Re: 1990, 1.6 turbo post-starting problem
Sounds like the pump is pulling air - any bubbles in the lines?

Re: Diesel pump timing - help required.
I don't like primer bulbs, it's just another connection that could fail - pulling air is the no1 fault on diesel engines. If I have to prime a dry pump, I'll do it from an elevated bottle and a single line - this eliminates any fuel supply issues when setting a pump up. There should be no need for a...

Re: Diesel pump timing - help required.
Would altering the pump timing slightly really make that much difference? It would indeed. Sounds like it's retarded too much. It wouldn't take long to try a touch more advance, you can always set it back. I woudn't rule out the plugs, especially the ones you cant get to easily - sods law says it'l...

Re: Diesel pump timing - help required.
Does it run clean once the engine is warm? If so look at glow plugs - it probably isn't the pump. If it does it all the time then it's retarded, confirm this by pulling the cold start leer which should improve starting and reduce smoke. You can wind as much advance in that the standard slots will al...

Re: JX Injection pump rebuild cost(ball park figure)
Kit, The nose bearing is a pig to get at, but no deeper than I'd go on a full £80 rebuild - obviously the part (bush and nose seal) would be extra on top, maybe £100 all in? And you'd still have your other pump - I could do the pair and you'd still have £50 change and two working pumps. Rob, Erm, th...

Re: JX Injection pump rebuild cost(ball park figure)
Cheers Elvis, I'm not a real person - just a figment of my own imagination. Oh - the rebuild link is the second post here - don't be daunted by it, they are fairly simple when approached methodically but maybe a little fiddly to reassemble. You do need one special tool - a tri-lobe socket to undo th...

Re: JX Injection pump rebuild cost(ball park figure)
Hello people, Few people have mentioned 80-90 to me recently, then I got posted a link here... £300 for a pump build is mental I'll do a tune for £50 - that's GOV MOD, pin grind if required, removing restrictions on AAZ pumps (uprated pins are useless without this) and a new throttle shaft seal rebu...
