Changing auto trans fluid

I`ve just done this on mine. You drain the oil with the dipstick tube nut that goes on the sump. I had to warm this up first to get it to undo. Used a small gas torch. You can then remove the four bolts holding the sump. There is a gauze filter inside that needs cleaning out or replacing depending o...

Engine coolant headache

I`ve got the smaller oil filter. The needle is sitting lower part of the light. It never gets hot before it blows, the light just comes on for low coolant. The gaskets i was using were Victor Reinz kit from GSF.(does bothsides) I`ve now rebuilt that side with a Elring kit.(only comes as one side) The...

That pipe is water.
I would at a guess at the pics and say it`s a MV.
You have a data sticker in the cab area that will give you the code.

Engine coolant headache

Sit back and get comfortable this might be a bit long. I`ve got a 2.1 MV engine in a 89 westy. It blew the rightside water jacket seal first and when i stripped it i would have said this was just from time.(200,000km+ on origanal engine) After the rebuild,(new heads, water pipes, injectors,LA exhaust)...

Body prep

Get some black spray paint.
Spray random lines over your primer before flatting, you know you`ve flatted it all when the black paint has gone.

Brake Upgrade

Bigger,Vented discs are fitted standard to the later South African built T3.
The kit is new calipers,Discs,Pipes and Hubs, and you need 15" rims.
I`ve only found them available as a kit from America.
But me and mate are looking into what parts are needed.

Top of radiator not warming up..

I had the same problem. 2.1 MV engine. It first blew the head to block rubber seal out. Stripped it down and it had a bad crack across the head,in between the valves on number 4. After rebuilding the engine i couldn`t keep heat at the top of the rad. Turned out to be a crack in a piston liner.(numbe...

Air mass

I have the same sort of problem but not as bad on a 2.1 MV engine.
I`m just working my way through the advise on this web site www.vanagonauts.com.
There is a lot of things that might cure the problem first.
If it turns out to be your air mass, try some sites in America first.

Pistons

I had thought of that as an option.
I think i`ve a crack in a liner and the pistons looked OK.
I was wondering if i could bring the power up if i fitted the other pistons.
