Re: No acceleration - Ferry cancelled - help please
Great advice there Meridian and thankyou also to Sarran for kind offer of assistance when in France. :D It WAS a fuelling issue!! Brake servo hose was sound, accelerator fuel squirt good, and the little brass inlet gauze all clear. Checked at BP garage where we'd filled up from emptyish to full 2 da...

Re: No acceleration - Ferry cancelled - help please
Good ideas there and thankyou. Will check that brass inlet cone later today and look around for another rogue filter. The push rod was indeed a longer one so that must be better than a worn short one!
I'll let you know how we get on. Fingers crossed!

No acceleration - Ferry cancelled - help please
Urgent help required to make ferry for Sunday so I'll be as brief as I can; Best friend's Van is a 1983 1.9 water-cooled,carburettor with electronic ignition. Yesterday it developed a major undriveable problem; starts fine and idles ok and is just about ok accelerating up to 20mph but any faster and...

Plastic Under-arch Liners
Is there a manufacturer of the plastic under-arch liners for T25s out there somewhere - saw some on a van in a car-park the other day but the owner wasn't around to ask where he'd got them from (they were a retro-fit item I'm sure as they looked spanking new) Having just had my seat-belt mount welde...

Running-in period for re-con diesel engine
Hi all. Have just had a re-con AAZ 1.9TD engine and head fitted to my high-top van. The engine re-builders specify a 600mile running-in period of not exceeding 3000rpm and an oil and filter change at that point. They haven't mentioned any re-torquing of head bolts though. Is this an ok running-in pe...

Re: engine undercover or not?
Our 1.9td goes commando too - didn't even know they had these undercovers fitted as standard. I like them off as how else can you look for all those oil leaks and trace funny noises

Re: Cam-belt replacement - is this acceptable way?
If there's no woodfuff key on it then all is clear and thanks for the info. I don't know what Haynes is on about as they mention this keyway and if it's not there they mention a lug in the sprocket has to line up with recess in camshaft. Perhaps they're referring to the ADZ,ADY,AAM,ABS and 2E engine...

Cam-belt replacement - is this acceptable way?
When I replaced the cam-belt and tensioner on my AAZ 1.9td van the first time I managed to do it successfully by lining up TDC mark on flywheel and painting white markers on cam and fuel pump sprockets to line up with painted marks on cam housing and fuel pump. Everywhere I read it states I should b...

Re: Gear Stick Fix?
I'm pretty sure you can get these guides still from VW (in the UK at least). I got 2, part number I think is V251 711 173C, for about £10 each from VW in 2008 for my 1.6 TD. That said there seems to be plenty of guys out there who can make these things from scratch, geniuses they are!

Turbo compatibility - AAZ/JX engines - advice needed!
Hope someone is genned up on this but I need some advice before I spend my hard-earned cash! Is a turbo from an AAZ 1.9TD engine compatible with a JX 1.6TD engine? If it is , is it a straight forward swap or are there any adjustments to be made?(oil line connections for example) Also, would the boos...

Re: diesel filter change
It certainly can't hurt to brim the filter with clean diesel - I always do on my 1.9TD as I hate the idea of the injection pump running dry at any point. The 1.6 and 1.9TD is certainly self bleeding as for your model not sure but fill it up and give it a crank.

Upgrading from 2 to 3 point seat-belts in rear
I want to fit 3 point inertia reel belts in the back of my camper. At the mo I have a pair of 2 point lap straps which are anchored to the angled panel beneath the bench seat. My question is can I fit the 3 point utilising the existing holes of the lap straps and by drilling one more hole on the sam...
