Hi,, yeah the tube seems fairly pointless, engine still sounds good! Thanks for answers, sorry about the small pic, it looks a lot bigger in picasa.

Engine is a 1.9 petrol , I think the hose matches synchrosimons description, will have a go at re-attaching or replacing. 1000 miles sounds good, should be able to work within that band.
