Re: Rear swing arm mounting brackets.
Thanks for the photos. Totally different from what I was trying to come up with. I think I'm a little better off, that the chassis frame looks good, just the outer leg of the bracket rusted, but that may change once I start digging into it. As you've done, the jig has to be removable so you can get ...

Rear swing arm mounting brackets.
While the engine and box are out, I started tidying up the rear end. It didn't look bad so I thought it was going to be an easy job. The inner swing arm mounts were okay, the nuts loosened and the bolts turn. The outside mounts are bad. The nuts come off, but the bolts won't turn. The outer side of...

Re: Which gearbox.
I'm not well versed with bthe options, so please bear with me. Using the AAP box would require my diesel bellhousing.to mate to the engine. Does the bellhousing bolt straight to the AAP gearbox. do I use the diesel primary shaft. Are the gear linkages the same or does it need specialist linkages. T...

Which gearbox.
Hi, Anyone know what the best gearbox would be best to run with a golf agg engine. I'm presuming the original 1.6 diesel box will be too low gearing, is a petrol box a better choice.

CS to AGG engine swaps
Hi, I was looking for info, on changing a CS diesel engine for an AGG. There seems to have been plenty done, but I can't see much info. I've tried the Wiki and searched. I thought someone might have done a detailed list of parts and procedures. ...

Re: Overheating damage
I started disconnecting the engine ready to remove it. A couple of things were crazy. I tried to remove the starter, but the bracket for the clutch slave cylinder was in the way of one of the bolts. I removed the slave cylinder, which again was crazy, the rear nut is inside a shaped bracket. I was l...

Re: Diesel CS engine won't start
Hi, I've put in my other post. The compressions are, Dry No 1 - 16b No 2 - 10b No 3 - 6b No 4 - 19b Wet No 1 - 38b No 2 - 36b No 3 - 35b No 4 - 38b So would look like a ring problem. Still tentatively looking at other engines, but IY engines seem pretty scarce. Are there any othe...

Re: Overheating damage
Just did a dry and wet test again today, all readings in bar. Dry No 1 - 16b No 2 - 10b No 3 - 6b No 4 - 19b Wet No 1 - 38b No 2 - 36b No 3 - 35b No 4 - 38b These are all cold readings and higher than the readings in the wiki ( 28 - 34) I was expecting it to be a blown he...

Re: Overheating damage
Hi Rik, I've put stuff on another thread under mechanical. I did a pressure test on my cylinders yesterday and not good. No 1 was around 18 bar, no 2 was 6 bar, no 3 was 5 bar and no 4 was around 15 bar. All pressures were cold, as I cant start the engine. The Wiki says the warm pressures should be ...

Re: Diesel CS engine won't start
Oh dear. I tried turning the engine over with throttle depressed, but it was much the same. A spurt of fuel each revolution. I didn't have a 27mm injector socket, but managed to get no 4 injector out with a ring spanner. It was light most of the way, possibly due to the overheating. I connected it t...

Re: Diesel CS engine won't start
Ah! No, I just turned the key. Would that increase the pressure. The spurt of fuel that came out didn't seem to have much pressure behind it, I was expecting it to really shoot out, but I haven't really worked on diesels before, so wasn't sure what to expect.
I'll give it a try again tomorrow.

Diesel CS engine won't start
Hi, my engine overheated after the coolant hoses burst. It seems that the system was pressurised. Not sure why yet. It did start up again but took a lot of turning over and pumping the throttle. It won't start at all now, so I slackened the injector pipe, but hardly any diesel came out when cranking...

Re: Which petrol engines.
So the AGG is probably the easiest route. It still must be about double the power of the CS. Are parts for the AGG still readily available.

Which petrol engines.
Hi, a few more questions on engine swaps. I've seen info on swapping from diesel to petrol. The good thing is I'm more comfortable working on petrol engines. One swap is the 2.0 gti engine from a Mk3 golf. Are other golf engines suitable or only the AGG one. I take it I would need the wiring loom as...
