Hi @shepster, if you'd kindly highlight in a photo, I'd be glad to share where it goes on my engine. Note I'm not sure all is connected properly, but the engine does run well.

Re: Electrical issues / questions 1.9DG water-cooled
Could you please highlight it in the pic, and I'll gladly go track it down for you. As I mentioned, I'm no expert and I've owned my VW all of 4 months π There's no guarantee that all is connected right, other than it runs very well. I'll take a guess, as I was out at the van this morning, so I took ...

Re: Electrical issues / questions 1.9DG water-cooled
Hmmm, we may have reached the limitations of comparing engines. There could be differences from the factory, and there could be differences from work by previous owners. Also it doesn't help that I'm new to VW, too. Only 2 black wires, and no connector from lower left coolant pipe. Also, my engine c...

Re: Petrol Waterfall
Nice - thanks, that's a good link to have. I'll be trying my surgery skills to hopefully leave the hard plastic line unscathed.
The irony of it is that between hoses and clips, it's not much more costly to just buy the whole replacement!

Re: Electrical issues / questions 1.9DG water-cooled
Here's tracing the 2 black wires.
video
As for the other connector, down low on the back of the left side of the engine (always looking forwards), I don't have it.

Re: Electrical issues / questions 1.9DG water-cooled
A lot of top VW mechanics started off just like you 8) As luck would have it I have a 1985 VW T3 high-top camper with a 1.9L DG water-cooled carburetted engine. But I'm not one of the aforementioned top mechanics LOOL and I bought it 4 months ago so I can't answer accurately... but I can help with p...

Re: Petrol Waterfall
I might be wrong, but I've seen 7x3 described on websites just as hotpod said: 7mm inner diameter, with 3mm wall each side, so 13mm total outer diameter. In any case, I have 6mm inner diameter hose, so I'm off either way. I'll try the hot kettle and washing-up liquid method of sliding a narrower hos...

Re: Petrol Waterfall
That's golden advice, thank you.
Yes, I should chase down all the other hose segments of that same type. It seems the fuel hoses in the engine compartment were upgraded, but if that leaky one is still there, so are the others, probably.

Re: Petrol Waterfall
Well, leak found π and it's simple. Fuel pump on the 1.9L is way at the back, on top, so nowhere near where the leak was - instead, directly in front of the engine bulkwall, the leak is from a short segment of braided hose, that connects the hard plastic line to the flexible rubber hose that goes in...

Re: Petrol Waterfall
Thanks, good info. And thanks for the warning. So if it can't be the carb, suspect no. 1 would now be the fuel pump, I suppose. Is there a way it could leak and then stop leaking? That's what puzzling to me. Leaks I've seen with other vehicles just dripped down continuously when the fuel pump did it...

Petrol Waterfall
Was surprised to notice a massive leak of petrol today, but was even more surprised to then see it stop on its own. 1985 1.9L watercooled carburetted petrol engine, and the leak occurred when starting from cold (but in the afternoon on a warm day). I'm thinking it can't be a leaky hose, as when it w...

Yes, I removed it but... put it in "the leftovers bin" instead of chucking it out as I should have done!

Identify this wire
Found in the dashboard of a 1985 Reimo camper, 1.9L petrol water-cooled. The round ground was behind where the stereo would go, not attached to anything, and the sensor probe end was down behind the glovebox shelf, also not connected to anything. https://i.postimg.cc/bw6Zb2ZD/IMG-20251109-142623.jpg
