Re: how bad is the 1.6d??
Guys, do you have to have it converted to run on waste vegetable oil or should I just go out and empty the chip pan into the tank?

Re: how bad is the 1.6d??
My 1.6d will sit at 60/65 all day and she made it up Porlock Hill fully loaded with camping gear and family(in 1st gear..of 5). I use her every day and have done for 4 years, including a little 6m run down and back up the M32 every work day. Top ever speed 80mph briefly..downhill with a tailwind. Mi...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
I did mine in dark blue 2 years ago and recently decided to go over her again as I had to do a little repair on the tailgate anyway. I was suprised how much the colour had faded, but I have to say a quick once over brought the colour out lovely again, probably better than the first time around. I ca...

Re: Can anyone recommend a good garage in Bristol?
RM Autos in Lockleaze. I've been using them for donkeys years, no problems and usually fixes or reconditions a few other bits & pieces whilst doing whatever I've put her in there for. ie rebuilt the bearings when replacing the brake drums. Great lads in there, no problem getting parts or using b...

Re: Question for the 1.6D drivers
Mines a tin-top ex panel van which pops along at 60mph, 70 downhill with the wind behind and she made it up Porlock Hill, admittedly in 1st (out of 5) gear at one point. You do get great mpg at these speeds though!

Re: oil leak please help
New oil is thinner than old oil, so it finds all the little gaps to get through. Might be the sump gasket, most of them leak a bit after an oil change. Just top it up now and then when it gets low. Think of it as a running transfusion.

Re: Knocking at rear
Does it sound like a giant chicken clucking? Then it's the CV joint. Grip it firmly, give it a bit of a w*nk for 2 minutes to redistribute the grease inside. Ta Da! Sorry for graphic description, but basically that's the required motion, one we're all familiar with..! OK some more than others

Re: 1.6 ct 1982 power........
My 5-speed 16 pops along at 70 on a good surface, but it's a flat top panel van so not lugging an upside down boat on the roof probably helps. Bit slow up long hills though, but she made it up Porlock Hill (in 1st) fully stocked up for a long weekend. Anyways, don't roll in a 25 to make good time, d...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!
In my humble opinion camo paint is a nightmare. It clings to every bit of oil, dirt & grit like velcro and the water stays on it for about three days after the rain's stopped. It does make a nice undercoat for the Rustoleum though. I've still only put one coat on mine (dark blue over the khaki c...

Hi mate, if it came out the factory as a panel van (rather than the microbus that was then converted into camper vans by the various conversion companies) it wont have the retaining nuts for rear seatbelts. You can buy them from brickyard or justkampers. You're meant to weld them in, but you can dri...

Where to start? Where to stop is the question you'll be asking yourself for the next 5 years or so.. In my humble..First decision..full width seats/bed or 3/4 width. If you want all the camping refinements then it has to be 3/4 width to get all the cupboards in. Personally I went for a full width r'...

Yeh if we just drive along nose to nose we'll be ok  She's back in the garage that fitted the radiator in the first place! So far they've broken an indicator, snapped the gearstick and fitted a poltergeist powered radiator fan. I only went in for a brake cylinder. Apparently the auto electricke...
