checked the fuel filter and didnt have a problem there,seemed to be enough fuel getting through, started and ticked over as usual just struggled when under load. Now this problem seems to have gone but acceleration feels lumpy and even more powerless than usual

As they said ^^^^ but knowone mentioned the marks on the carb and bi-metalic choke housing that give a rough guide to basic adjustment......two or three notches that give the basic range. Wales is great for wild camping, usually you will just stumble across places.
we always take an o/s map with us which is even more useful with a syncro
