Re: Video showing how to do Rocker Gaskets?!

Thanks for the in-depth reply VWCamperfan You're right about them breaking down - I did them a little while back and they were only leaking slightly then, they progressively got worse, which is why I'm doing them again. I'll try bending them in. The VW ones especially are tough little buggers. Will ...

Re: Video showing how to do Rocker Gaskets?!

Sounds like it, thanks Ghost.

I'll see how this silicone job goes. If it doesn't work I'll track down the proper VW ones.

Cheers

Re: Video showing how to do Rocker Gaskets?!

I've gone with a gasket sealant - Locktite, so fingers crossed. These things are driving me insane! This must be about my 20th attempt :) Just comparing my new Rockers with the old ones, the new ones are definitely not VW and are a bit flimsier. I decided to use the old clips with the new covers as ...

Re: Video showing how to do Rocker Gaskets?!

Thanks for your replies everyone. I'm able to get these new clips on by hand - IE without a screwdriver, so does that mean they're too loose? The old ones were basically the same. Jason K, when you say spring clip, do you mean the one that go over the Rocker Covers, or that twisted silver one that g...

Re: Video showing how to do Rocker Gaskets?!

Nice one Edoh, that's exactly what I'm after! Thanks for sending through. The power of video :) Doesn't seem like I'm doing anything different, just doesn't seem to work. I did try sealing the Gaskets using silicone with the old covers, but it still leaked. I used Grease with these ones, as I though...

Video showing how to do Rocker Gaskets?!

Hi all This has to be the simplest job in the world, but I just cannot get it to work - my Rockers keep leaking. I've ordered new Gaskets, covers and clips and put them on as carefully as possible, but they are still leaking like buggery! Would like to see if there's a video out there that shows how...

Re: Changing the Crank Shaft seal

Actually, it is an Auto Gearbox, so better do a bit of reading :)

Will be on grass with some wooden blocks for support.

Thanks again

Changing the Crank Shaft seal

Hi all, I'm considering taking the engine out to do the Crank Shaft seal (GULP!). I'm pretty sure that's where it's leaking from. It's a type 4, air cooled engine on an 81 type 25. I've never done this before and although I'll have some expert hands on deck on the day at Techenders, I was just wonde...

Re: Removing the dash light bulbs

Thanks AngeloEvs. I thought that was the case, but it was quite hard to twist and I didn't want to break it! In the end, a pair of Pliers did the trick. Any idea how to get the bulb out of the casing?! They don't make this too obvious :)

Re: Changing oil...

Depends how old it is. Can't hurt to replace it and they don't cost much. But, if it's been replaced in the last few years a clean would do fine.

Removing the dash light bulbs

Hi all, This is a dumb question, but for the life of me I can't figure it out! I'm trying to replace the bulb above the fuel gauge on the dash. I have an 81 T25. I've taken the top panel off, managed to slide the white plastic housing for the bulb, but I can't seem to get the bulb out of the white p...

Desmond, your paint isn't thinned enough if you're having major probs. You shouldn't need to sand very much at all between coats if you've thinned it enough. What might be a minor blemish on one coat will be twice as bad on the second and so forth. Go back through the WIKI and make sure you've read...

Thanks for taking the time to reply Covkid, greatly appreciated. I did read everything several times, but there are a few things there I am going to try this time around; IE - I will make the paint thinner and not go back to add more when it's drying; which I have been doing to thicken it up. I thin...
